Type of oak found in Long Island NY

Can anybody positively identify the proper species in our property

You posted two different types.
Both are in the red oak group. One could be a hybrid mixed with chestnut oak or something else. Not a pure white oak type. The other appears to be scarlet or in the red group.

Don't have my book here to positively ID them. More information is helpful.
Bark, canopy pics with out leaves present and the base area.

We thought one was Northen Red Oak and the other a white oak after search online for hours and hours

I agree. The left one is more deeply lobed than some white oaks, but I see many like that. There's lots of tree-to-tree variation. The right one could actually be scarlet oak (assuming you have them on LI) instead of northern red due to the deep sinuses, but its definitely one of the reds.
