Used Husqvarna 266xp identification

Looking at buying what the guy claims is a 266xp.

My question is should xp appear on the metal ID tag? All it says is Husqvarna 266. There is a xp on the top of the saw.

Any info is appreciated.

Husqvarna wasn't strict with their id on the serial tags. I have one 262xp that only says "262" on the serial while my other 262xp's all say "262xp" on their tags. I think the seller is likley correct in identifying that saw as a 266xp.

There was never a “non-xp”266, like there was a plain 268 and a 268xp. Chris has it right

The original se has a different carb and piston than the later se and xp.

I had a Husqvarna 266SE. It ran great. Sorry I sold it, I just purchased two more.

Some had just a very small decal on the recoil, no XP on the engine cover,
