"The system's broke, and Obama's sneaky segue into more Socialism isn't going to help."

=============

The system may not be broke but we're taking an 8 count.

A key point.

It wasn't socialism that did it.
We are borrowing from Social Security right now. Not just Saudi Arabia and China.
(If this had been a decade or two in the future - well maybe)

This spending is for an overly agressive capitalistic society that got caught.

Back to the forests.

Sort of.

A local moulding and trim mill set up a pellet (wood stove) production capability to utilize their waste. Claim they saved ten jobs.

This is really the same thing as utilizing wood for power. Not bad!

Damn!,somebody that actually gets IT,rather than just nodding with rush limbaugh.Like I mentioned 2 or 3 months ago guys/gals,if you got the leeway, find a dirt project, theres gonna be lots coming down the pike.If you expect to wear only one hat during this downslide, you may get REALLY bummed.
Stand still and your gonna get left behind, like Clint Eastwood said"Improvise,Adapt,Overcome."

This bill most likely wont fill the gap, best measure is about 1/3 at best, more bills WILL come down the pike, but you can be ready on the first wave, with only so many prepared.OR you can wait with EVERYBODY else,me I'm not much on herd mentality

Yes, if you are around here, it might be good to have a bucket for your log shovel. And some building construction tools.

Around here USFS(least as far as I can see) is fairly non-exhistent,not that we dont have forests, just little that is market usable(national or international scale).there was a decent market for birch chips for high end photo paper, and of course pulp, but pulp is a global thing.Big hang up here with the local borough and a decent sized alaska based harvester (Klawoc-somethinarather).So outside of R.O.W clearing, and a few large projects ,its fire reduction stuff.
I dont have any experience there, but of course AK has the mostest hugest fires.Wish I would have dabbled when I was younger, but that would have conflicted with commercial fishing which was definitely my calling as the ocean always will be untill the day I die.
Hats off of course to anybody that prefers to work in climates/situations that the average Joe/Suezie might not prescribe.

When I was a kid I planted trees during spring breakup. Lots of guys I worked with were illeagal Mexicans, FS didn't check, didn't care. My fear is alot of this money for fuel reduction may be for precommercial thinning type stuff and will be done by Mexicans.

most of the pre-comm thinnings are done my mexicans and the contracts are sent out to mexican-owened (minority) companies.

I had a mailing from some group with a good sounding name, something about protecting the national parks. Likely they won't like my answers. PETA used to send me questionires too. Likely I answered every one of the questions wrong except on government funding for research using animals. I never sent either a penny.

Just be realistic.

Don't blame the average government employee if the amount of stuff that gets started this year is 1/3rd of what is being tossed around now.

I have 50,000 acres of fuels treatment project plans in my office that are funded ($8mil worth) and have been on the board for 6-10 years. None of them have been implemented because of EIS, wildlife surveys, hydrology/riparian surveys, NEPA, smoke management authority, and potential archeology site impacts.

Welcome to the post-Clinton era.

Sounds familiar.

You'd think that the fuels reduction projects might be more available for fast tracking,if nothing else based on potential cost savings vs fighting fire+ value of timber lost.

That's what the big three FS jobs here are focusing on... Fuel reduction. One I guess could be considered fuel reduction/reclamation--two years ago 650 acres of trees were blown over. Not only is that a fire hazard, but I think they want to harvest the wood before it gets pithy and unmerchantable. Eco-nut groups are now fighting that job, because a few miles of road have to be put in... Quick, someone call the waaahmbulance!:censored:

All three jobs are going to be good for the environment, with lots of lop and scatter and reduction in fuels... I think these Eco-turds should have to sit in the middle of these units when they're on fire... While loud speakers blare, "This is why fuels reduction is good!" Idiots.:chainsaw:

Any substance to Obamas carbon credit talk? I'd like to harvest some 'pork' and reduce my logging slash/burning nightmare. God damn I hate burn piles. Would be cool if I could sell the slash, and get a credit for the reprod as well.

Pork. I prefer elk but Pork seems to be the more popular American dietary substance since Obamama assumed power. Pass the pork, please.
