vents, how hot is too hot?

Funny I was just thinking about this earlier. My vents get hot but not to hot to stand on. Air temp max at the bottom of my plenum is 240 but the pipes off of that are not to hot to touch. I like to run 220 at the bottom of the plenum. To compare a wood furnace temp to a high efficient furnace temp the wood furnace would be much hotter like the furnaces of the 50s. My furnace does it's best heating between 200 and 240 at the bottom of the plenum and that's when the wood burns slow and clean.

My issue with thermometers are I constantly monitor it and adjust it when I should leave it alone.
