This was a massive pine that died after 2 or 3 lightning strikes. It was wicked twisted and there were also high voltage power lines within falling distance of the tree.

I love the Stihl when it cuts the Tree down.Nice job, thanks for sharing that with us!

Yeah i hear ya, that tree had me nervous with the twists and funky leans. Judging by how much it took to get it to go in the direction i wanted it da** sure wanted to go another way. I'm not sure a hardhat would help much with a 300 lb. limb falling on ya.
But the tree wasn't as far along as we thought, as you can see it was still holding the needles. The wood was very good and will be milled up into lumber.

:clap:Nice vid thanks for sharing it. I agree on the hard hat. It will do wonders for that unseen 5-7# branch. Makes quite a clang when it bounces of your brim.

Another hint keep your ax close I hate turning my back on a tree close to going over.

I cut a beetle-killed yeller pine today almost that big. Hard hat, football shoulder pads, and tenner shoes for quick exit.

I told the wife to watch out the window in case I got whacked. That triggered her "calamity" instinct and she grabbed the camera.

Wow it took a long time for the server to allow me to post.

Anyway, looks good. I would also like to see you wear a brain bucket. And use plastic falling wedges instead of splitting wedges. PM me and I'll send you a few.

You're a good man... And BTW, if you are handing out wedges- I wouldnt mind having one of those tin hats you PNW'ers wear. Us east-coasters are used to these plastic half brim construction buckets haha.

your ms460 has to be bone stock

yeah, it is other than opening the stock exhaust port hole a little more. Also the chain was missing a tooth and the oiler wasn't working right and on top of that i'm pretty sure the depth gauges needed to be lowered. I'm not really interested in doing too much to the saw because i'm going to be selling it very, very soon. ;-)
But don't let the word pine fool you into thinking it was a soft tree. That SOB was every bit as hard as oak if not harder. I swung the maul as hard as i could into the stump and it bounced off. lol

I wanted to go get some plastic wedges but the stealership is a good 30 min drive one way. My brother talked me out of it because we had the steel ones that would do the same thing.

Safety tips on the hardhat noted and appreciated.

Cedarkerf - i kept the maul farther away because i didn't want the possibility of tripping on the fugger in case i had to haul butt in any given direction.

I was gonna say sharpen your chain and check the bar oil, but didnt wanna start a war. Seen a little smoke it the second video about 1:20 from the bar heating up. A new chain and oil pump issue fixed and youll be good to go:rock:

main thing, You got it on the ground and no one got hurt.

i pulled the pump out yesterday, took it apart and cleaned it up. There must have been some trash in it cuz it's oiling fine now. :D

Ya you can tell there was some serious bar/chain friction going on in the vid. Thanks for sharing.

Nice job on that drop! And, nice job on the vid. I had two pines I had to do yesterday and decided for once I would try a vid. Dusted off the 660 lol, and put the face in the bigger one. Went back and started tha camera. When I finished I went to check out the great footage I must have gotten but it seems low battery shut it down about one second into the back cut. LOL O well.
