I carve these out of 2" thick slabs of eastern red cedar. Probably most of you folks will not care for them because they aren't realistic fish, and the grain of the wood is hidden, but I carve so I have an excuse to paint. Just sayin. It takes about an hour or less to carve one and at least that long to paint one. There are lots of layers of paint. Its all exterior house paint, so they should last longer then me.
