What’s this, foaming at the root?

Big older white oak tree foaming at the root. You can actually see it bubbling and running out. What is this? Is it hurting the tree?

This is at my son’s house. He has oabout 10 big trees in his back yard. At least half of them are leaking like this. Will it heal itself? Or eventually kill the tree?
Not at all.....its a fungal reaction to moisture content in the surrounding soil......and cab be seen in any wild wood lot....but it does look ominous
