What saws do my fellow wood cutters have??

I heat with wood, except for a couple of space heaters. I have a dozen cheap used saws, most of them 40cc or so. Some of those are GZ400/GZ4000, but most are plastic Poulans. There's one 46cc plastic Poulan, and the 62cc Chinese clone or my old McCinderblock for when I need a 24" bar.

Those take care of the easy part of the job, and when I'm done with the cutting it's time to get down to real work. It doesn't take much saw to cut firewood for heat.

My CAD burned itself out and I doubt I'll do any more saws - there's a couple I'd like to mess with, but I probably won't bother unless they fall in my lap. Maybe if they put AutoTune on a cheap saw I might go for that.

Stihl lineup with many newer but mostly ported 046 and 028 Super. Keep 028 salvaged from a fire bungeed on tractor for blow down on fences. Done nothing to it.

My lineup has changed since I took my avatar picture. Here are the current saws:

Stihl: 028 super wood boss, 036, 044
Husqvarna: 455 rancher
Homelite: xl 12, 360, 410, 450, 550, 750
McCulloch: pro Mac 55, 10-10a
Other: huztl 372 clone with bb kit

Favorite to run? Without a doubt the homie 550. He always manages to make his way to the woods with me for firewood duty.

MS362C-M, MS231 and MS193T. This picture was taken when the 193 wasn't broken in yet and I had just given the other two a good clean: I have worked on enough saws coated with years worth of solid resin, gum and sap to appreciate the value of keeping equipment clean. Yes, the 231 could be a bit cleaner but it's a tool, not an ornament.

The only other saw I see myself buying is a Zenoah GZ4500, but that's more for sentimental value and may hold off until a reasonably priced one comes along. These three saws cut all the firewood I may reasonably need and then some.

I have to admit I didn't think the 362 was so good at noodling or tackling large good.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with a soft spot for the 520. It's been a phenomenal saw for me.

This might be blasphemy around here but I have one saw. A husky 555. I want to convince myself that I need a 70cc saw and every time I go cut firewood I put the kool-aide down and realize how much fun I have running that saw.
We'll help convince you Ben. You can have more than one toy.

Nice saws bud. Sure look good all cleaned up. I'm trying to get better at cleaning up myself.

The trick is a combination off a good paint-safe industrial detergent (I use it everywhere, even to clean the floor at home), a capacious enough sink and a good supply of used toothbrushes. ;)

Don't think they always look that clean however. Most of the time they have to be happy with being blown with compressed air before being put away.

Couple more for the hell of it... These get run now and then, some more than others, some not much for condition. I rebuilt the 797 and it's a great runner. Super 44A Is just too nice to run but ill run it a bit. Strong saw at 200psi. Homelite 990D also has 200psi at 112cc is also powerful but not used much. Last is an 87cc 440 in great shape. I run it more than others it's a pretty strong saw... I like cutting firewood with it. Macs are most of what I collect, rebuild and run. I usually tear them all down, make new gaskets, replace seals so no leaks and they run if I grab one off the shelf. I like running them as much as collecting them.

Ya i love mine. I did opened the muffler and its whole new saw.
Only complaint i have is the clutchs on the echos seem a little week. My inlaw has a 670 and says the same thing.
But with a nice sharp chain it realy dont make much differance.
