What i dont understand is how a saw can have 8 hp and only get a 21 inch bar!! My ms361 does 4.5 hp and pulls a 20 inch super chisel just fine.

Someone didn't do the conversion from kW to HP correctly. 3.7kW is about 4.9HP.

I'm really thankful Mike's site is there. I use it all the time and it's the best reference source on chainsaws I know of.....

But.... there are many blank spots for certain manufacturers and certain models, several places where photos of certain models are incorrect, and other major and minor omissions, typos and mistakes in the database there. Ya gotta remember the site was compiled through the combined efforts of several different people over some time..... and it ain't finished yet.... hopefully, some directed efforts will be applied toward that soon.... I guess Mike is a pretty busy guy....

Meanwhile, there's really no substitute for the manufacturer's data sheets, manuals and IPL's for a specific chainsaw.....

The conversion is ok. Its just that its listed as SAE hp, not BHP. If I remember correctly, you take SAE hp and multiply that by .62 to get BHP, which gives you 4.9-5 BHP as rmihalek stated.

Hp SAE is something totally different from more "modern" hp ratings, so it is not a question of correct convertion.
German saw manufacturers used to love the SAE ratings, as they look more impressive. :hmm3grin2orange:

Remember the 13 and 15 hp ratings for the 090??? - that was also SAE ratings.

3.7 kW equals a bit more than 4.9 hp as I remember it - more like between 5.0 and 5.1 (Edit; 3.70 kW is 5.07 hp).

The saw in question is probably the 120si, or something like that.

Dolmars ratings used to be a bit optimistic I believe, as Solos still are.
