I take whatever I can get. I cut a lot of tops with my buddies and try to scrounge as much as I can other places. Right now I have

Red Oak
White Oak
Black Walnut
Sassafrass
Elm
Tulip
Aspen
Silver Maple
Red Maple
Hickory
Pine
Apple
Golden Locust

There's probably some other stuff in there too. Our running joke when we can't figure out what something is: "it must be firewood"

I'm burning a fair amount of slabwood too. The last tops we cleaned up had two house sized stacks of slabwood. I like burning it. A little more handling, but little to no splitting. More ash, but I can get a bed of coals to last almost 12 hours. Hey, If its free then its for me.

here's the answer you've been looking for ...... wait ,,,,, wait,,,,,,, its firewood......lol

What we admit to in the pile!

Black Oak , Ponderosa Pine ,Western Red Cedar, Eucalyptus ( varied), White Oak , Sycamore, Elm , and a little poplar ( we all need kindling)..:hmm3grin2orange:

Now the OCD types will appreciate this (note:cribs are 8' long x 5' high, one row)
Crib 1 = Black Walnut
Crib 2 = Black Cherry
Crib 3 through 8 = Red Oak
Crib 9 through 14 = White Oak
Crib 15 to 17 = Yellow Locust
Crib 18 to 20 = Red Oak
Pallet 1 = Black Walnut
Pallet 2 to 5 = Red Oak
Pallet 6 = Red Cedar (mostly ends up as kindling or carving stuff for birdhouses)

Nice Wood!
