That's right......I did it. I asked the dumb question. :msp_sneaky:

What saw is it that you prefer when you are working? Not just that though......I wanna know why you like that one over the others in your lineup. Does it just feel better.......is it light but strong........how about fuel mileage and fumes? Forget cookie cutters for now, lets talk about what makes the perfect worksaw.

The one that starts and runs without a hitch, and has a sharp chain. For me its the 046 for felling and dealing with big stuff, and the 026 for everything else.

When working, the saw that give me the least problem is my go to saw. Generally that saw is the one that starts easy and consistent. It needs to respond quickly, and idle after extended use.

you must be bored to ask this question randy

i have to say the 372 and 346,,
but my best saw i have to use is this one

+1 on the 346 and 372. But what oil ratio and octane gas do they run beat on with synthetic or dino oil?

Ok....so far most of the guys want a saw that starts easily, idles without loading up.....and in Scott's case is light.

I use a bunch of different saws.....most of the time they are one's I've just built and need to put some fuel through them for testing. Yesterday I dropped a 36" oak and bucked it up with a modded 385XP......really strong but damn that's a loud saw to be using for hours on end. I'm thinking of ways the mod a muffler that keep it quite but let it breathe.

Husqvarna 61 Orange top or black top. Big enough to do almost any job and small enough I don't need to cough my testes up at the end of the day. Although I see myself grabbing my modded 350 more often.

Ten dollar 021, its always the first saw I grab. Don't ask me why, always starts, light, gets brush and small limbs out of the way, then go to medium iron and then the big iron. Best all around saw for general cutting and I will get hammered for this;

Poulan Pro 330.

LOL, looks like Randy got hacked again. :msp_biggrin:

Looks like Space got em this time.:ices_rofl:

Just plug your ears and wear a set of earmuffs over them.

The other guys were splitting and I was noodling the rounds into manageable sizes.......watching them wince when the exhaust was pointed their way was telling........then Rudy says "damn that's a loud saw"........not once but maybe ten times. :msp_sneaky:

Randy in our firewood operation it boils down to the least cost of operation, reliability, and how long the saw will last under true commercial operating conditions, running 5-6 hours a day and the least amount of maint to keep them going. Fn or us 20" and under the 261's and 20" and over I'd have to go with our ported 460 as it just produces more than the stock 441 CM. The 261 is easy on gas, built solid as a rock and takes very little maint, blow out the air filter weekly, 91 oct non ethanol gas and mix and the one going on it's third season has not had one dollar spent on anything but fuel/oil and chains, same with the one on it's second season. Same can be said with the 460, gas/oil and chains, no other up keep cost. It's the reliability and cost of operation, the best example is our old 028, 30 years old, nothing but a couple air filters, three bars, prolly a hundred chains but absolutlely nothing mechanical, and I would hate to guess how much wood it has cut, people would think I was crazy. I wish every saw I had was woods ported, ported for work like you do, for the increased production potential, I have seen no reason to believe a GOOD woods port has no effect on saw life, but does increase production as in the case of our 460. Not cookie cutter modded, but modded for everyday production work, as the increased production will pay for the port work.

I do that so I don't notice threads like this.

You must be bored then........you've posted twice in it already. :msp_wink:

Damn fine choice.

Nope it's me Mark.......I've been pondering the true meaning of "worksaw" for a bit.....this is just sort of my way of gaining some other folks insight on the matter.

Go big or go home.

I had a modded muffler on my 385 and absolutely hated it. It would make your ears ring through the best ear plugs. You could hear that saw on other side of the valley, 7-8 miles away. You could feel the sound waves reflecting back off the log you were bucking and hitting you in the chest.

Ported 70CC. I prefer my 046 with a 24'' b/c i always wear earplugs so noise isnt an issue. I like the reach and balance with a 24'' but its not crazy long for limbing and bucking small rounds. Guys dont carry 3-4 saws with them in the woods. they carry one and that saw does all the cutting for them.
