I am 40 yrs old with an awesome wife, 2 teenage boys and an under 10 daughter. I work as a Senior Engineer (Systems Architect) for VeriSign handling the .COM/.NET and A and J Internet root DNS resolution platforms. If you use the Internet to visit anything then you rely on the systems that I design :)

We heat exclusively with wood via an OWB, spend 2 nights a week in Washington DC and work from home the rest of the time. It is a constant struggle to not leave my desk to go split wood or saw some trees. We have 18 acres that is mostly immature trees or very large pines so I combine scrounging with my own wood supply.

I'm 26 and am an Industrial Engineer in CT. I primarily work on building simulation models of manufacturing operations in local jet engine component manufacturers.

My dad has burned wood most of his life, and I slowly came around starting around the age of 16, and now scrounge and buy whatever I need to heat my home. Still get a good bit of cutting/splitting in with my dad, too.

I'm turning 36 next month. I do road construction in the summer and cut firewood in the winter and run my own property services business in between, doing a little of everything from high risk tree removals to seasonal cleanups and just about everything in between.
A wife and 4 month old son, two dogs and two cats at home keep me busy there too.

32 tool and die maker by trade and also own my own business building high performance 2 stroke racing engines mostly for atvs sleds and dirtbikes .love the feel of wood heat and the money saved.

I'm 67 years young.Retired head of plant maintenance for a precast concrete plant.Repaired overhead cranes, 5 yard mixers three of them, boilers, all hand and power tools and the electric needs of both plants here in Ohio.

The company that I retired from has an ongoing expansion project that I can have all of the firewood I could ever use and the equipment to get it out of the woods and to the house.

Burned indoors until 4 years ago. Then invested in an OWB,the best thing that I have done as far as heating the house and hot water goes.

i'm 42 and i collect cash for a paycheck ie i am a bill collector for a mfg company.

allways enjoyed a fire in the fireplace - bought my home three years ago and found a great deal on a QF 2100 insert that fit perfect into my fireplace. from there i found a great deal on a husky 272xp and a decent log guy so now my main hobby is firewood when it's sunny / dry in new england

figure i am burning through 600 gallons less of heating oil a season now (150 compared to 750 before the stove) and the house has never been warmer

I am 56 years old....retired almost 10 years ago with a law enforcement pension. I burn wood mostly cuz it reminds me of my youth...wood was all we heated with back in the day up north in Coos County. I run a front end loader for a local gravel pit during the summer months....mostly cuz the owner won't let me get away...ha ha. I do a limited amount of landscape jobs during the summer months...only the ones I want to do and on my terms. I turn down twice as many as I accept. I plow a few driveways in the winter here for some long time loyal friends...mostly cuz they won't let me stop. My Dachshund, Kirby, makes me take him out on an ATV ride at least once a week. If I don't...he gets all grumpy and stuff. Life is what ya make it baby...life is what ya make it.

Installed a OWB last year , have alot of wood all around my 15 acres to cut, heat my shop and house . One of my passions is fishing , thats where chugbug came from , its a topwater lure that we have nailed alot of bass on over the years , I fish the finger lakes region in New York with my wife , there's eleven finger lakes in all . Made it to Alaska this past summer for 10 days of non stop fishing , it was a blast ! Really enjoy the info here , I visit the chainsaw section alot also .

I'm 46, served 20 years in the Marine Corps and now work as a Department of the Army Civilian. Have a 13 year old daughter, 4 quarter horses, 4 cats and three dogs. My wife grew up in Wisconsin and loves heat from firewood. We have 28 acres of which approximately 20 are wooded so we have plenty of wood fuel. Began reading AS in Fall 09, since that time I have purchased a Husky 359, 35 Ton splitter, steel toe boots, Labonville Chaps and helmet. Just yesterday, cut up a Oak tree which had blown over and mentioned to my wife that I probably could have got through it a bit faster if I had a 70 cc saw.

I have a 2-yr. owb,taylor 750 that heats the store & our 1877 house.
I love to cut, split,& stack wood as I have done it most my life.
A bad day in the woods still beats a good day at work.....

39 (almost 40 in a little over a month), and I'm a corporate pilot by trade, but not flying right now due to the downturn in the economy. So, for now I'm pumping Jet A into the ones that still are flying. The pay isn't nearly as good, but it keeps the bills paid.

Grew up cutting firewood with my Dad, my first job at 5 years old was to push the lever on the log splitter, and I've been running chainsaws ever since I was big enough to handle an XL 12. Also spent a great deal of time while I was growing up on my Grandpa and Uncle's dairy farm, driving tractors, fixing machinery, throwing hay bales, and milking cows... that's how I got through college and fed the aviation bug. Lots of hard work!

My wife and I live in the house that she grew up in, and we heat it with an old Northern Leader wood/coal furnace, with a gas furnace as backup. The wife loves the wood heat, but she complains that it isn't as warm as when they used to burn coal when she was growing up. She likes it HOT!! :dizzy: It's not uncommon to come home from work and she's got it up to 90+ degrees in the house!!! I keep telling her she wouldn't be doing that if she was the one out there cutting and splitting and hauling the wood ;)

(Well... I don't have a mustache :) but hubby's growing a beard for Christmas!)

Retired due to hubby's illness and he is retired for the same reason. White collar/blue collar household. Country girl married many, many years to a city boy (and am still converting him!). Chopped, hauled, stacked & burned firewood with my Dad when I was young. Bought a house a number of years back with a fireplace which bought me back to firewood.

I'm 28, married to a nurse and have 2 boys 5 and 8. I'm a Training Specialist for a private research facility. Previously I was a CNC Machinist with 2 years schooling and kept losing my job due to companies closing so I changed professions. We sold our first home 5 years ago to buy my childhood home thats been in 3 generations of my family. We've been slowly restoring the home including electrical service, ductwork, etc. (Always more to do). Wood and coal have heated this old house for years.
