I couldn't tell if he was just showin off, or if he was legitimately practicing plunge cuts. Definitely needs the practice on how to start a plunge. I kept waiting for that saw to kick back and give him a red and white landing strip right down the center of his forehead.

the end grain is a stupid place to start practice.

Yep. Always start with the lower quadrant of the bar for a plunge cut and you won't have all that catching and likely kickback.

Well, the saw looked "new", so maybe he's the first in his group to get a saw and he's showing off!?
I always plunge cut a fallen tree I'm bucking to prevent my bar from getting pinched, maybe I need to practice that move?

He just clearly doesnt understand how to safely borecut. I have been cutting wood with friends and borecut a tree or a piece of firewood. next thing i know they were trying it and almost hurting themselves. I try not to borecut in front of people that cannot do it properly without telling them not to or without showing them how to do it properly.
