I cut up a standing dead cherry tree and gave most of the wood to a wood turner. He even got the burl. Wood turners make beautiful pieces with cherry burl.

I cut it for firewood, although I have a buddy that has a side catering business so he is always after wood for smoking

Wild cherry tends to go all mushy pretty darn fast if it ain't split and protected from ground moisture.
As someone posted in another thread recently... that stuff will go punky in Arizona.

I put most of mine on the side for smoking meat, I mix it with apple and hickory


Pulled pork cooked with cherry, apple, and charcoal and basted every hour with maple syrup.
