Will an MS660 top end bolt straight onto an MS440?

Will certainly be taking it to the local saw shop for a proper compression test before I do anything to it..so is this old method of testing compression via the "drop test" holding the starter rope a load of rubbish?

Over here in NZ piston/cylinder kits are dirt cheap, italian made Nikasil coated sets to suit MS440 for about $130...so if the compression is low, will be getting one of those.

What should a healthy MS440 compression be....about 150?

hmmm, wouldn't it be an increase in HP and not torque? After all, stroke is staying the same...

It would result in an increase in both hp and torque given that you can provide it with enough fuel. Larger piston means more piston surface area and therefore the combustion pressure results in a greater force applied to the piston/connecting rod. Hence more force on the crank which directly translates to more torque.
