Wound Dressing?

I've never used any wound dressing because I know it's not the solution, but I'm really tempted to give it a try.
And the homeowner would surely appreciate my attempt.
In fact, when I explained to the HO that there is no scientific evidence that wound dressings do not prevent decay, mushrooms and wood root I sensed I did not convince her.
Take a look what wet snow and the strong wind of the last few days here in OR did to this beautiful Magnolia.
Do you think it will somehow compartmentalize?
What would you do?

I would tell her it is on its way out, but there is still time to enjoy it. Inspect it every year or every other year knowing that one time in the next 5-10 it will be your last.
 
wound dressing won't help that tree.. we do keep some on the trucks for asthetic reasons
