Yet another classic CAD case. Note how the subject tries to deny that the AS Chainsaw forum was the root cause of illness and tries to assign the blame to Acts of God - kinda like an insurance adjuster. 35 years before joining AS is more accurate.
Bwa! Ya ain't believing me but it's the truth! Tornado hit, I have this little running husky and....it just was not gonna cut the mustard. so I borrowed money, bought a bigger saw, toasted it. OK, swell, have to go back to plan B, used saws. So, I need to work on used saws to get them to run. I find I can do this. So I am thinking, self, you are an official geezer, ya'all need to think of something you can do for the next however long ya got kicking around. Need something to supplement meagre salary and upcoming socialist insecurity check, which is beyond meagre in theory. Look around, no dedicated small saw shops in area. some mom and pop mower shops, but no small saw shops
bingo-rama!
Buying up junkers, working on them, turn them into cheap runners, spare parts for the carcasses, building up stock for an eventual shop. Can't afford to become a dealer in anything but used generic saws, then doing repairs.
Robbing peter to pay off paul because tom, richard and harold won't speak to me anymore, just to get cheap saws and parts and sort of learn as I go. I'm not "collecting" I am accumulating stock, and trying out the saws, running them, might as well get well ahead on my wood, same as my food, we have quite a bit put forward for when it gets harder to purchase food, too expensive.
See, there's a difference. Collectors got plenty of $urplus $pare change to get old saws to restore to pristine shape then make shelf queens, I am just working towards an eventual shop, something I can do as I get older that isn't as physically demanding, and have a little supplement for the wallet hopefully. And my back is working medium OK now so good time to stockpile our needed firewood, because I never know when my back won't be working. comes and goes. I am thankful it works at all, most folks I don't think would ever recover from a dozen violently blown disks.
Ya, it's fun and all, I really like fixing them and working on them and using them (started on the 306A I got from Scott today, this one will be a project I can see it already) but also practical for me.
*Perhaps*. See how the economy goes.
I have less into all my saws then most guys have in one new big "pro" saw. I think..hmm, not counting that new I bought and broke, and still isn't fixed, I am at around a little over 300 bucks into saws, total, since coming to this site.
Anyway, tornado weather alert just went off again, been going all day. Plus flood warnings, like we don't have enough mud as it is...heh
So..having multiple saws and a variety of sizes...I think it is a good idea. Better to own and not need, then need and not own. Having just one saw is asking for it, IMO.
I tell ya, my boss appreciates having at least one guy here on the farm who is into saws, I'm the "dang tree laying across the road over there, go deal with it" guy now. and hopefully sometime this year, be the guy who gets the pine logs for the shavings mill, whenever that gets finished.
Good freeking thing I am learning to be a better feller! We already have all the equipment I would need to do big logs, excavator, trucks, crawlers, etc.
So, CAD or not, that's me story. Proly got a scosh of CAD, I'll admit it, but it's still pretty important and practical for me now. Enjoyment, plus practical, works for me!
