just still looking at reviews on various stihl saws...Owners whats your take on the 461 and 660,if they were both same price new.thanks

461 seems to have more favorable remarks- lots of torque, forgiving powerband etc. 660 not so much- not really that impressive. 461 is as big and bad as it gets in it's class. 660 doesnt impress when compared to the 390xp and 395xp. Ifn you want 90cc- go with a Jonsered 2188 or wait for the 661. Ifn 76cc will suffice- grab the 461. Most of the members here have no need for all the saws they have and the sizes they have them in. Is this a need or a want? If what you have is enough, then the 461 would be my pick.

i ran a 441 reg carb,461,and 660 at saw shop last year, just for couple cuts each.the 660 won me over then hands down,i bought it but had to sell it few months later....now i looking at 441c,461 or another 660.i never ran 441c with mtronic but hear good things.441c @842.00 no b/c.,,,660 @950.00 no b/c.not sure 461 but thinking it be higher i didnt get price on it yet......its a need for big stuff i get sometimes that no one else wants....

depends on the bar length and wood to be cut. I run a 32 with a skip on my 461 for some bigger wood and on the bigger stuff in just cant keep up that well. I have a husky 288 that I like for the bigger stuff more than that. 461 leaves some wood that ends up in fiber pull when falling. I would say 30 inch and less 461, larger, go 660. If you are just bucking then I dont really think it matters much.

you didnt note if you were using it for falling or just bucking stuff. BIG difference

mostly bucking...i still stuck on 441c,but 660 only 100.00 difference....thinking 461 will be about 175 to 200 difference...i heard that 441c cuts close to 461,but then i know 660 stomp them both, but is heavier and likes fuel........really leaning to 441c or 660........MAN WHAT TO DO

The 390 sucks right along with a 660 stock. The 395 is the strongest but I'd almost just run a 088 if I'm going to run a 395 for any length of time. 461 is more impressive stock than any of those. 441C might have a touch more power than the 044. It will be heavier and spring av is nice.

I have a brand new MS461 that's lightly modified, an MS440 modified, an 036 modified and an MS260 modified. I like my little MS260 best of all! It is one ANGRY little saw and LIGHT!
