i went to my local small engine shop that i have been a customer since i was 12 ,the owner said you have to see this,so i went in the back,i was shocked,i can safely say there was at least 75 gas trimmers, blowers, cultivators and chainsaws, she told me this new gas is really causing carb and fuel line problems,it just made me a little more disgusted at these oil companies, they take a gallon of 1980's gas and cut it with all these additives and 15% ethanol and make five gallons out of it and charge 4 times what it is worth and rape everybody at the pump!!!,i guess i am just disgusted with the record profit making oil companies, "i guess a man's gotta eat"!

No, today's gasoline rules, dude. I drink it, and I get druuuuuunnk!!!

But seriously, just separate out the ethanol. Take 5 gallons of gas, put it in a clear vessel with a drain valve at the bottom, add 2 quarts water, shake it up, come back in the morning, you'll see clear separation, drain out the bottom stuff. Ethanol mixes with water, gas doesn't. Works for me!

There's also a quicker way to do this, by heating it, you'll cause differential settling, but that costs money, so I don't do it.

If you're not going to go through the trouble of separating, at least TEST YOUR GAS!!! They sell little testers that'll do the job. If you have a new saw under warranty, you will void your warranty if you're using gas with an ethanol content too high! Oh, and you might blow it up too...

i guess being disgusted doesn't change a thing,i guess i will just have to get used to getting decent fuel in a 55gal drum:frown:

how does this affect the octane rating?

i have been running 100 octane av gas for a year now with stihl ultra, and have had no issues,it is still sad that you cannot get good gas at the pump though:msp_thumbdn:

True dat. The last ethanol-free pump in a 20 mile radius bit the dust 6 months or so ago. I'm not travelling further for gas, so that's what go me started separating.

Jacks it all up. One of the reasons ethanol is used, is it's affect on burn rate and ignition. Remove the ethanol and you have a fuel of unknown quantity.

No thanks. I'll keep pestering the guys at the local dirt track, hit the Marina, or fill the farm tank with Corn free Marathon Rec 90.

Stay safe!
