Toady i found a solo 662 saw for sale, it was well used and the compression felt low and it ran ruff, they wanted 300$ for it. Should I try to go get it or leave it alone? :monkey:

I'd pay $300 for a well used Stihl 066 that ran rough and had low compression.

Oh, wait, you said Solo 662 ? $300 ? Don't think so. Solo has a good rep, but the lesser known brands simply don't command as high a price as a Stihl or a Husky.

I just finally found the piston and rings for my 662 and while the price on those was decent ($70 it was oldstock OEM parts) it was near impossible to find. Solo finally turned me on to a dealer that had them and their service and help when I called was fantastic I might add.

As far as the saws performance it handles and cuts very well I had a 20" bar on it this morning and burying it in white oak that was definetely not green and it pulled through like a trooper.

I would not even consider $300 as a fair price for one even though I like mine I would think $200 tops.

One other thing the are almost identical in every way to the 667 short of the fact that a 662 piston and cylinder is 2mm smaller. Also the 667 has more rebuild parts available and the ones on ebay that say 662 are actually for a 667.

I wouldn't even consider a 662, as the 667 is basically the same!

....and the deal doesn't look good anyway - I am no expert on older Solo saws though.....

$300 for a Solo 662 in questionable shape is completely insane. That saw would have to be in excellent to almost new condition to be worth $300. As described, it's maybe worth $100.

Yeah, but then, you wouldn't consider a brand new Stihl, either, or anything else that doesn't say Jonsered or Husky!

If your country had been invaded and occupied by Germany during your formative years, you might shy away from German saws, too.

Actually, non of that has any impact on how I look at German saws - why do you think the MS361 is high-lighted in red, along with the 346xp, in my signature? :biggrinbounce2:

Now, the story of the 361 is a bit special, as those that have been here for a while know that a well-known Belgian Industry agent (spy) stole the design from Husky, and sold it to Stihl in Germany. :biggrinbounce2::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:
