    262 clutch 3/8 vs .325

I did some searching here and see 3/8 recommended repeatedly. Guess I will get a different bar and chain. Thanks.

    262 clutch 3/8 vs .325

Nothing wrong with drum. I just had a .325 bar and chain. The .325 rim gear won't fit on the 3/8 drum.

    262 clutch 3/8 vs .325

Finally finishing a rebuild 261 conversion to 262. Ready to start it and the chain would not roll. Previous owner had been running a .325 bar and chain with a 3/8 rim gear. I picked up a .325 rim today not realizing I also needed a clutch drum. Can I now just buy the .325 drum and use my old...

261 to 262 Husky Conversion and questions

Picked up the 261 about 3 years ago, partly tour it apart and never finished. Piston and cylinder ruined, have aftermarket from Bailey's. Questions Can I replace the crank seals without splitting the case? I was going to split it, till I read how difficult that can be; don't have a...

How to seal the pipe on back of stove?

I need to seal the pipe coming off the back of my stove. The stove is porcelain, and the existing pipe sets inside the stove flange. Previous owner had some aluminum looking 'tape' on there. I've moved it and need to reseal. It has a rope seal shoved in around the pipe where it enters the...

Stihl TS 400 quickie saw bogging out

Borrowed saw from work; as I was leaving, boss said it bogs out. He was right. Ran great for 8 or 10 minutes, then lost power, had no throttle response and finally died as I was pumping the throttle. I thought it was only when hot. I started it again in a few minutes, ran great for 1-2...

1st carb rebuild, Correct Tillotson number?

Number stamped in the side of my Tillotson carb from the Olympyk 264F Deluxe is S128B608. Is that the correct model number to find a carb kit? Thanks James

    Olympyk 264F not getting fuel

Saw has set for a year, now it won't start because it's not getting fuel. Runs if I pour fuel in. Where would you look first? Can I shake something lose without taking the carburetor apart? Frustrating because my Olympyk 251 can set for years and always start on the 3rd pull. James

Scored pistons-What % ruin the cylinder?

I was going to make a separate post, but I'll put it here. Bailey's did me right today. I might not be doing myself any favors by using their aftermarket piston, but I already had it here when I realized my cylinder was bad. I called them to see if the piston in there P&C kit was the same as...

Scored pistons-What % ruin the cylinder?

Mine is grooved the deepest above the exhaust port. My first clue was when using the muriatic acid. That one line was the only place that just kept bubbling. I'm sure it's the aluminum from behind the cylinder lining. Anyone know the best source for an OEM P&C for a Husky 262xp? Thanks James

Scored pistons-What % ruin the cylinder?

Seems like from what I read here, a lot of scored piston cylinders can be saved. My mechanic said 'most' can be saved when I asked him. My first one, a Husky 261, has a deep grove in the cylinder and appears wasted. I thought I was playing with the odds in my favor, but now I'm a 1 for 1...

261/262xp exhaust port area 4 muffler mod

Domed or flat top? I think you have mentioned that before, but in my searching here, haven't seen any confirmation that a domed piston exists. I have the flat top one. Never heard of a better clutch till now.] James

261/262xp exhaust port area 4 muffler mod

Every post I make here, I just know I'll get a good bashing from someone who knows more than me. Just the other day someone was quick to criticize the guy who wanted to build his own bucking spikes using AutoCAD when he could have bought new ones for $15. That caught my eye because I'm just...

How to clean top and ports of a cylinder?

I'm rebuilding my first scored saw a 261/262xp, and I've got the muriatic acid and a ball hone for the cylinder walls, but how do you generally clean the ports and top of the cylinder? They are covered with carbon/melted aluminum. Only the cylinder walls are chrome, right? So I don't want the...

    Are drive link shapes standardized?

I'm having trouble finding Carlton chain locally (South Kansas City). I'm looking for A1 3/8 because that's what I been using and dealer says my carlton depth gauge will not work quite the same on other brands(we'll get to that later). I've had an olympyk saw forever, but now have a Husky 261...
