How young is too young to run a saw?

Thanks for all the replies, guys. My son is 17 now.........never got injured, but then again we didn't cut alot either. He's taller than me now, lol. But I still worry because the danger is there - just have to be careful. Waylan

still buying mobil 1 racing 2T in USA?

That comes out to be about $29/liter, correct? Brad, did you run this oil before or just wanting to try it out? If you did run it, how'd it compare to H1R? Thanks, Waylan

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

They see an average of 20% less throughput.........I'll agree to that. Are you saying that the fuel mix at say 40:1 that enters the cases of strato and non-strato saws, remains 40:1 in the non-strato saws and changes to 50:1 or so for the strato saws? I think from Scott's observation of the...

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

The 441 that had been used for milling - did the crankcase and piston seem dryer than normal? Or when you've tried a saw out for several cuts and gone back in for tweaking did you notice anything then? Just wondering. Thanks, Waylan

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

Ok this response from you is more informative than most of your other posts in this thread - elaborate more. Clearly you have had some deep thoughts on it all. Rather than just say 20% less fuel through the saw means less lubrication. Waylan

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

I think anybody that agrees with you on this will automatically fall into your "smart" category. And anybody that disagrees doesn't know what they're talking about, lol. I think I am in the latter, but that's ok. All this is good food for thought. Seems us chainsawers just like to overthink...

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

I agree, but I don't have enough experience to know. I would venture to guess that just tuning itself (more evaporative cooling + more oil due to richer tuning) may have been enough on it's own. That does not mean that I wouldn't be running a higher ratio of oil to fuel as I agree, but I think...

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

Not sure I'm comfortable with you siding with me, lol. You've come across in this thread as a real jackass. I'm not calling bwalker out, just asking for something other than repetitive regurgitation of the same thing over and over. Alot can be determined by the attitude a person exhibits on...

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

Maybe I'm not considering several things, but you talk as though you have hours of study into this subject and are the final authority - and that there are no other possibilities, and you seem unopen to the possibility that your "concept" of how all this works may not be the be-all, end-all...

Will Strato charged motors be less reliable long term?

When I first read up on the strato design, and the lower fuel consumption, I jumped on the bandwagon with the less lubrication line of thinking. This thread has opened my mind some in that regard. Take a 4-stroke engine in an automobile for example. If you remove the drain plug on the oil...

Anyone use maxima castor 787 oil?

Uh oh........the pdf linked to above is going to get a reaction from some of the guys who use the Lucas. Be nice to see how some of the other popular oils we use stacked up in his testing. Waylan

    661 Oil Test 32:1 vs 40:1 vs 50:1 ?

I think the canned fuel is higher octane for longer shelf life. Fuel octane degrades over time, so if you start off with 87, open the can and it sits several months or a year you could be in the low 80's by the time you get around to using it. Starting with 93, hopefully it won't degrade to...

Want to Sell I have about 1000 Stihl Screwdrivers

    I don't think he's selling 10 for $2.50. I think it would be $10 plus $2.50 shipping. Waylan

What in the world is this???!!! MS661 related.

The pic you posted only shows the model number. The serial number I am guessing is stamped into the case, normally on the recoil side up near the muffler. Waylan

    2260 felling spikes

I'm out - no more replies from me after this. You stated something false - that Tilton is still a distributor for Jonsered. SawTroll corrected you. You then went on a rant that since you were a dealer for them then you should know more about them than SawTroll (which obviously you don't as...

    2260 felling spikes

So is your post accurate? Tilton is still a distributor for Jonsered? Being a dealer or employee of a company doesn't automatically put someone in the know IMHO. Waylan

    2260 felling spikes

Ok you say tilton quit carrying oly, and they only deal with johnnys - I can see how this is confusing and I think SawTroll was just trying to clear it up based on his understanding......... Waylan

    Mastermind Meets The MS661 Again

Randy may not be running an HD2 and dual port muffler cover on the 661, lol. Waylan

    Popup vs Flat Top?

Sounds like a casting flaw to me - that may or may not have broken just the same in stock form. Otherwise you'd expect a rash of your ported 460s to exhibit the same behavior after a good bit of use.
