    Still MS211 question

Does anyone out there know how the throttle rod attaches to the throttle arm on a Stihl MS211? I was replacing an oil line last night and had to loosen the handle enough to maneuver around. It was enough to cause the rod to pop out. The rod is straight and there are no spots on the arm that...

    441 vs.460

" I can tell you that I only fuel my 441 once during a day of cutting, and when bucking fireplace size rounds the smoother AV will help with fatigue at the end of the day". Really? I cut for about 4 hours today and I used 4 tanks of fuel. How long are your days when you cut?

    stihl 441 with a 28" bar (or 32")

FWIW I have a MS441 for my firewood business and I run a 20inch ES bar and it cuts like a dream. I think anything bigger would slow the saw down quite a bit. Today I cut a 36" Red Oak and it ate it like butter. You just have to go to the other side to get it through bigger wood, but I figure...

Are you guys on the East coast getting ready for the Hurricane?

I'm about 3 miles from the Chesapeake and already had two Virginia Pines drop across the road in our neighborhood today. Since they were from my property, I was out in the downpour cutting them up and getting them off the road. The 441 did well but it is definitely NOT a limbing saw. That...

What are people paying for the new MS261 and MS362?

    $600 for a 362 with 20" bar.

Cutting with my dad - pictures of my firewood rig

Its an '03 with 90K miles. I take care of my stuff, my Dad REALLY takes care of his stuff.

Cutting with my dad - pictures of my firewood rig

Nah, just careful with my stuff I guess. Financed the tractor and I have a farm so I depreciate it. The saw is only about 4 months old but I've already put about 40 tanks of fuel through it.

    Keeping saws prisine aka OCD

I hate it too but unfortunately I think it comes with the turf. I noticed today that my starter handle had somehow banged around and knocked a fin out of the grille plate (see my previous post regarding cutting wood with my dad for a picture of the saw), and I also threw another dang chain...

Cutting with my dad - pictures of my firewood rig

Here are a few pictures of the beasty. It was very tall and I think a bad storm finally uprooted it.

Cutting with my dad - pictures of my firewood rig

I went over to the neighbor's 600 acre farm today and pulled about 2 cords of red oak out from a nearly 2 year dead tree. Attached are pictures of my rig. The MS362 made some nice work of the rounds (I'm running a 20" bar and the rounds were about 28-36"). The only bummer to an otherwise...

When you see a craigslist ad like this, what do you think?

Heck, he may have paid that much but that just means he is not careful with his money, and retail price paid doesn't have any bearing on what I pay used. Case in point, someone wanted about $1000 for a well-used MS660 a few weeks ago. He claimed he paid $1250 for it. When I offered what I...

Defective Stihl MS362 Kickback Mechanism? Is it Dangerous?

Yes starter side is broken through at the thinest point about an inch above the screw hole.

Defective Stihl MS362 Kickback Mechanism? Is it Dangerous?

Yes, that is why I am concerned. At first I thought it was defective plastic but now I'm not sure. I now think the brake mechanism stuck and caused the plastic to break without triggering the mechanism. My first guess is the dealer will try and patch it and send it back out the door. How...

Defective Stihl MS362 Kickback Mechanism? Is it Dangerous?

Hi all. I was running my 6 month old Stihl MS362 the other day and I had a little kickback issue. I've never had the saw kickback before as I have been cutting for the last 25 years and know enough to try and avoid those situations. This time I was about halfway through a 12 inch diameter...

How much does a STIHL 362 cost in USA??

I paid $600+tax with a 20"bar and yellow chain. Of course, I bought a 25K John Deere Tractor two weeks prior so that probably helped the deal a little.

First time buyer with a $500ish budget. Looking for some guidance.

I just got a new MS362 for $600, but I'm not sure how much over your budget that might be. It is a hell of a saw and can probably handle anything you need it for and then some. My advice is go a little bigger than you think you might need. I started with the MS290 and was dissapointed in...

how many saws do you have?

1 - a MS362. I cut about 2-3 cords per week and find that one saw with a few extra bars and chains is much easier for me to properly maintain. I come home from a day of sawing, take the bar off, hose her down with water then blow dry with compressed air, reattach the bar and chain, fire her up...

    This`ll make you cringe.

An old guy that I know always tells me with limbs like that either 1) get higher than the limb as they don't kick up or if you can't do that 2) cut it keeping the tree in between you and the limb (reach around with just the saw exposed) so if it kicks back it hits the tree and not you. Does...

441/460 or move to the 650/660?

Probably as many trees as I can handle by myself. Right now I can cut and split about a tree per weekend (3-4 cords of wood). Of course I don't have to take the big ones, but I hate to let them just rot down.
