As long as a few are bringing up the older top handles like the homie super 2, let us not leave out the poulan s25da and its various cousins. Built like a tank, all metal, and made a lot of $$ for those that used them. I know many tree guys that still have boxes of parts of these old poulans sitting around.
new climber on our crew got a 338 cali from the boss and that thing stinks. granted its still breaking in but i think its a dog. he's been letting me fiddle with it because the first time i heard it run i knew something was wrong with it. he brought it back to the dealer to get it adjusted but it still ran like dung. thats when i started trying to dial it in. its getting there but even at the 45cc its been given it still cant cut with the 2hunge.
out of curiousity what kind of bar upgrade is there for the 338?
RB I agree they are dinos but much better than the homies. Mine have not been in the air in probably 10 years also. But they were good in their time. Did you ever get the chance to try the dolmar 3410?
RB how many 335's did you have before you found a good one???
.
Try the dolmar 3410th as a sub for the 200t. Not quite the power of the 200t but it will get the job done and take almost 1/2 off the price of the king.
Or go with a Jred 2139T and get more power than the 200T with less weight and $$.
.
Sounds like a real winner. Wish I could try one out.
Don't, he's just wishful thinking :hmm3grin2orange:
What is the street price for a 2139T?
I live in an area where there's a lot of fruit farmers (pears, apples mainly, but also cherry, etc), hence we have huge area's of low stem fruit trees, which need constant pruning.
There's also a high density of chainsaw dealers around here (all brands) , but all these farmers only use one saw : the ms200T. My Stihl dealer Eddy sells them like candy, everytime I visit his shop, I'll notice him selling a new one. You should see them smiling faces when he fires up a new 200t and make a test run, what a screamer.
so many people can't be wrong, I guess.
Good point. Seems the new little Husky, J'reds and the Dolmar are getting good reviews but while they were finally getting it right the 200T was in the woods working and flying off the shelves for years. In Virginia the 200T rules, they seem to be on every truck in the biz, including the electric companies, phone companies too. Some like facts, such as Woodie, so here's a fact, more 200Ts are sold each year than all other tops handle saws combined, nuff said, the public has spoken. All the Jonny come latelys are too late(that was for you Woodie, hehehehe)
Yup...so I read this post of yours, and it seems to say Stihl is going to let another saw die on the vine. All the Stihlheads will keep buying them, while meanwhile the other mfgrs seem to have bettered them. Just like the MS260. Dunkin' Donuts now makes a better 50cc saw than Stihl, but the 260 keeps selling, right Tommy?
Who cares if the other mfgrs are "finally getting it right." In the highly technical terms used by specialists in the field, the past is what they call "history." What matters is what's the best saw now. Personally, I really don't have that answer, and won't pretend I do...I've never used either saw, and likely won't ever. But it sounds to me like the Stihl heads are using outdated, inferior equipment if you ask me.
So stick THAT in your craw and smoke it!! :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
