Let's just say that I'm operating on a budget and I do not want any, "you should buy a Stihl or Husky," advise. I can pick up a new Dolmar 7300 or a 7900 used for about the same price. The 7900 was a demo saw and while it does not look extremely abused it looks more used than any of my other saws. Maybe I'm just too picky but the seller says that only 5 gals of gas have been run through the 7900 but I've got about 10 gals through my 5100 s and It looks in much nicer shape. I know that saws are going to get beat up but I always try to take good care of my stuff. Either of these saws will fit my needs, firewood cutting oak and other hardwoods with a 20" or 24" bar. A new 7900 is a little more than I have cash in hand. I've cut with a 7900 and was very impressed with it. Has any one that has run both think that I will be let down if I go with the 7300?

I have a 7300 and it is a great saw. I have run against a friends 7900 and there is not much difference. Most on here will say go with the bigger saw on the frame size. you are talking about 6 cc , Not much. The 7300 is very close in power to my ms460. You cannot make a bad choice here. The 7300 is an odd duck here in MN. The 7900 is only 60 bucks more than the 7300. Which Why not go bigger for the 60 bucks. The 7900 and 6400 are 200 plus apart. This get you thinking how much power do I need for the extra money. Good luck on the decision.

If the demo saw carries the same warranty as new like it should get it and don't worry about what it looks like.

The difference between the new 7300 and a new 7900 at my dealer is about $125.00 That puts the new 7900 out of my reach.

I guess that depends on what you cut - larger or harder wood will mean that 6cc makes more difference......

Personally, I didn't need the 7900, and didn't buy it - but that descition was based on my wood.

5 gallons is a bit more than normal for a "demo" that has been used for some cuts in the dealers back yard - imho it makes it a "used" saw!

Sounds very personal. Maybe you should see a doctor.:hmm3grin2orange:
I don't see the point of trying to insult me, but any saw purchase by a non-pro is more or less personal, based on several factors.

That doesn't mean that you need a doctor, it is just the way it is.

5 gallons does seem like a lot and it is a used saw anyway that you look at it and thats why I'm seriously considering the 7300.

My point was just that, unless you really need the extra power of the 7900.

Also, the dealer should have offered that 7900 much cheaper, if I understand the story right!
