3700 muffler mod

Interesting experience today.

I was cutting some firewood up with the 3700 today and decided to put a modded muffler from a 3400 on it to see what the cut time change would be.
Video'd it and from the times on the videos, no change in cutting speed at all. The saw was running well IMO with either muffler.
The modded muffler had the diffuser holes drilled out (5/16") and a port like the 4000 added to the muffler case. No spark screens in either one.
Must be my beginner tuning skills.
I'll be bringing that saw and both mufflers to the GTG for some tuning expertise from the experts to see what I'm missing.

A friend of mine found a 8500 case and with a project 5200 I sold him he put together a great running saw, he came over today to get some little parts to get it finished up and ready to cut wood. Before he left we put his saw in with my stash and took a few pics.

I could be like most guys and good heartedly say you suck. But I won't. Damn I never find these saws.

Donchu worry about 'Ol Homelite Jim Steve. He will have a big red saw (with a full-wrap) coming to him in trade for that sweet 4900 that is in his pics above (thanks for thinking about me Jim). It's boxed up, addressed, and waiting for a ride to the post office next payday.

That is easily the nicest 4900 I have seen (non-restored), full wrap handle on top of it all.

So anybody know the difference between the models. Three piston rings instead of two. Tan instead of green....

Mark, when I get back home this week, I can comb some IPLs but you need to check some bore sizes also.

You might PM Sawmandave and Igpoe as they can probably give a better answer then I can.

I saw that add a while ago when it came up. I think I would grab it if it were closer.

I believe Mark thought it was a model 72

unfortunatly it's alomst a 9 hour drive one way. i would love to pick it up and do so, but that's just alot of time away from more important things right now:msp_thumbup:

If no one contacts you about helping them get the saw, and it's close to you, and you have the spare $$......that saw could make good future 'trade bait.'

Swapped the .058G D009 large Husky mount bar for NOS .058G D007 mount Poulan Pro bar that had been sitting on my shelf for about a year. The Husky bar was too loose on the studs for my tastes, but wouldn't accept an 'S' spacer without opening up the slot more. The D007 bar fitted up great using an 'S' spacer and took the 72DL chain from the D009 bar. I thought I'd never use that D007 bar. I'll get a couple 70DL loops spun up for it soon as that 72DL loop just tightens up right at the end of the adjuster travel. The D009 bar will probably get traded off (or will have the slot opened up for an 'S' spacer).

The saw is a STRONG runner. Starts, idles, cuts, and oils great. Significantly stronger than a 3400. I'm very satisfied with it (Thanks Joe!). Just needs a duckbill for the tank vent (fitting is in place) and a fuel cap O-ring (once I find a suitable one.......nothing in my 'assortments' worked right). I'm also going to get a rim-drive clutch drum to replace the spur-drive that's on the saw now. Think I saw some new rim-drive drums on feebay.....

Nice saw Aaron. I'm still looking for a 4000. I put a D007 on my 3700 and knocked 2 links out because of the same issue. Now it's very tight and a pain to get on. I wish I'd knocked one out and left it at 71 dl.

Saw looks great Aaron. Much better with the PP bar too. I only had it long enough to clean it u a bit and fire it up, and it sure did run strong. That was a one owner saw, bought locally and he took pretty good care of it.

PP655 problem solved!

Looks like I have my marching orders ..

- Check the slop in manual pump
- Disassemble and check all the lines (3)
- Give automatic pump a good visual once-over

I'll report my findings later in the week .. thanks guys!
