whats a full rebuild on this saw going to cost
or does some one have a good bottom end for a 031 to sell me

i would just strip the whole saw down first. and then tell us whats stuffed and needs replacing.
plenty of AM stuff going around to rebuild it.
I have bought from this mob before.

Mate I put an OEM stihl outer spike on my 381 the part number is 0000 660 0850
not sure if it is a direct fit onto the 038 side cover but might be a start.cheers.

I think the eBay seller I got them off assumed all spikes were the same bet their for a 660 will check it out when I get home

had a kart engine do that to me about 2 years ago....5 mins into running in a new top end

Guys had larger dawgs/spikes lying around slapped em on my 038 and they don't line up! Any ideas? View attachment 437951

That's the same problem I have with my 029 super. The way to fix it is to grind back the long ones but I couldn't be stuffed as I don't need em to line up perfectly to do a nice cut.

Well the 029 turned 11 years old this week and today we put her through some big stringy bark running a 20" bar and 3/8....think I should give her a tune as she's bogging down a bit in the cut and I suspect running rich as but no smoke..original spark plug still.
