I've learned here at my shop that if you cut someone a break once, they'll expect a break everytime they come in. When people are in a pinch (and we all have been before) i don't mind knocking down the labor, or maybe giving them the parts at my cost. But it ticks me off to no end when people drive up in a new Escalade and b!tch about me making $20 profit. Maybe that's just me though.

What kind of profesional landscaper depends on a dealer to fix his equipment? I mean it takes all of ten minutes to slap on a new line head and replace the starter cord. At least on a FS-85 it does.
The yuppy...I would tell him to get bent. Nothign worse than a tight wad that wants something for nothing

Most landscapers in my area have no technical clue about the equipment they work with. I know one personally very well, and have already repaired some stuff for him. Local dealers tell me also that they are the best customers.

As for the yuppie, I had the pleasure to talk to Thall today and I have a feeling that whenever that cheapo is gonna set another wrong foot in his shop, ole Thall is gonna take him into the separate room for a nice conversation, LOL. He was diggin the war hatchet up as we spoke ...my o my :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I just can't understand this guy. Either he is a cheapskate cheat, or he really feels that the damage should be warrantied. Being sort of a yuppie myself, I know many of our ilk do not understand that you cannot abuse tools. They think because it is an expensive premium tool, that it should be pretty indestructible. You think this could be the case with this guy? He probably is just cheap but I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

But back when I was going to college and doing yard work on the side, whenever I'd have to replace a bump-head (or stock back up on mix oil or trimmer line etc...) I was pretty happy. It meant I was ready to make another pile of cash from that whacker. I mean, it had paid itself off already, so other than the chump-change on consumables to keep it whacking, it was pure profit. Same with the mowers, brush-cutter, etc... all had paid for themselves, so after that break-even point, it was gravy.

Some people are clueless (that yuppie with the woggled up saw being a good example) and others just need a clue-by-four upside the noggin.

Exactly Ben, I could have cared less about tossing on the rope assembly or re-doing the line head, my concern was to get it ready ASAP so he could get back to work with it. Pay for the parts and go wasn't good enough for him. That being the case he can go somewhere else, don't need that BS around here, got way too many good customers to be wasting my time with boneheads like that.

As for the yuppie he returned this morning with the saw claiming now it doesn't run exactly right. I said ok, lets go try the thing in some wood. He followed and I made about 10 cuts in 18inch wood and the saw never missed a lick. I handed it back him and said ya know I'm beginning to think you just don't like this saw. That was my first hint to him to knock it off. If he makes one more trip here with that saw he's finally gonna get sometihng to really holler about. He's gonna get shown the door and a very friendly DON'T COME BACK.

Ya know Ben this is one of the rare times you and me agree, I'll be dayumm. Guess were not worlds apart on everything after all, cool beans ole boy...

Got that right Brother Blegian. I've been honing the edge all day, I'm now ready for that guy to make one more trip. He best have his running shoes on because he's gonna be leaving in a hurry,lol

That little pr-ck couldn't handle a 441, he'd probly saw his arm off with it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm wait a minute, you may be onto something,:ices_rofl:

yup! So the next time he pulls something like that on you he won't have any arms to fight back with, when you bust em' in the nose.lol Then ask him if the hospital has a warranty on his stupidness. No, better yet ask em' if the hospital will sew his cuttoff arm on for free. Should be under warranty right? Oh, free labor too!lol He must want you to pay him, for you to fix his saw.;) :laugh: :laugh: :D :chainsawguy:
 
A happy ending, I THINK!

My man with the broken handle appeared once again yesterday morning. When I was trying his saw Friday in the wood I had forgotton to give him back plastic bar cover. He stopped in yesterday morning to remind me. I handed him his cover that I saved for him and asked him was all ok. To my surprise he seemed happy. He was smiling and said all is good. I took the liberty of trying to merely strike up a conversation with him. I said how much cutting ya gotta do. To my surprize he says quite abit, claims he has alot of trees to saw up. I saw ya know you probly shoulda got a pro saw in the first place and who knows maybe you would have had none of these problems. He goes your probly right. My sale bell went ding ding ding but trust me I knew not to even try,LOL. He went on about his way and seemed happy at last. I guess patience once again conquered all.

As for my landscaper haven't seen him or heard a word, no return call or anything. I will run into him around town sooner or later and I will indeed ask him how he figures I did him wrong. I have a reputation to uphold so I must find out why he feels that way. Cool heads will prevail and I will resolve this issue with him one way or the other. If it means a ball bat across the noggin or a pat on his back one way or the other I will clear it up with him, in my favor of course. Customers like him I don't need at all but with him running around lying saying I did him wrong is what I have to stop and I will. His business I don't need but his mouth can cost me alot of business and we can't have that.
