Well shucks. I've got abut 9-10 cord of rounds to split. Black Diamond splitter has always been a reliable starter in summer and a b....to start in winter. It would fire but not run until many repeat pulls. Out today temps about 30 and can't get a pop out of it. Briggs engine. I'm about to go buy another splitter. Almost certainly if I could find one with a Honda engine. Any one know of one?

Alternate is take it to my fix it guy and have him change the motor to a Honda.

Put a little hose down into the air filter box so you can spray a little ether in there.
But, most of the splitters get harder to pull over in the winter so they will be harder to start.
There is one brand that has a belt drive on the pump, it makes it easier to start as you are only pulling the motor over.
You could also do as was suggested here.

Put a space heater or a pan of hot coals under the engine/pump for 10 minutes and it'll fire right up.

I will sometimes put a tarp over mine and then run a piece of tube from the exhaust on my car/truck under it, come back in 20 mins and it's ready to go.

You could always get a "D" style starter, nah you wouldn't do that.
Better get a new splitter with electric start .

Any of youse guys use this setup ? I am redoing the decking I already cut the bushes down low so it will look bigger . The previous owners used drywall screws for the decking and outdoor screws and lag bolts for the frame needless to say the boards come right out without any tools Camo edge screw thingy works well so far . I like no screws on the decking looks a lot nicer

I have a B&S engine on a riding mower. It starts fine in the Summer. But in the Winter it won't start unless I use starting fluid or gas down the air intake. Someone told me the choke needs to be reset for Winter. Never messed with it. Don't know if it's the same thing.

If it has an automatic choke the thermostat could be bad… or it could be as simple as debris under the shroud interfering with the automatic choke arm (grass debris or even a mouse nest).

Some only have a primer bulb(not purge), once they start, you have to keep pumping it. While it works okay, I thought we were well beyond that type of a setup.

Did not know something like that existed for putting down 5/4 deck boards. I used galvanized deck screws on my redo and caulked over the heads before staining. Hoping to keep moisture out.

I had trouble with a B&S engine. Rough run, terrible idle, hard to start... Turned out to be a leaking plastic intake tube. Runs across the top of the motor.. I put an oversized o-ring on it.. Been that way for two years now. Starts on the first pull, runs as intended. I was less than happy when searching for the replacement part that was un-available.. My replacement was going to be a Honda, haven't needed it.....yet. If that helps..

Thanks I'll try to locate the part you are talking about next time I use it. It leaks oil out the mufflers and is on its last leg. I still use it to pull my firewood cart.

Yep, I bet so.
I been looking at this, be a nice step up from the .17 for plinking of vermin at the house. Nice because it takes the same mags as the savage I already have and he's including extra 10 rounders.
I'd still like a nice 22lr sometime, just waiting for the right deal to pop up.

Thanks, I was planning to try that tomorrow. It was well above freezing this afternoon so I tried it again. No fire but i think I smelled gas. I was already sure it was well flooded as many times as I had tried to start it.

A buddy suggested a propane torpedo heater, Mr. Heater to be specific. I checked a couple places in town and it looks like I can get set up with one of those for around $300.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about the hot coal treatment. Back in the 40s Dad used that on his car when temps were down in the minus area.

Go to harbor freight and get one of the predator engines. Best bang for your buck and just as reliable as a Honda.

Certainly got your money's worth out of that chain. Whats the bar look like?

Backside of cutters, comparo of Oregon and stihl. I only messed up one semi chisel chain at the end of its life in the roots. We cleaned them off with a Pulaski and I was very careful.

Only got 1 load put up yesterday before we had to leave for a wedding up north. It started an hour earlier than we had in the calendar at 5:00, oops! Actually, the invitation said 4:00, the poster board at the facility entrance said 4:30, and the timeline posted at the entryway/gift table said 4:15. It started at 4:30, so we were 40 minutes early. And that's kinda how the whole evening went. But enough airing my family's dirty laundry...

Leaving across state today for what will probably be a similar family event on my wife's side.

My honda powered splitter starts all the time regardless of the temperature. Go Honda and leave the rest behind.

I’ve got a good charger but was looking to an easier hookup without raising the hood. This so my mother can handle it when I’m not available.

Put a set of leads off the battery and run the plug outside thru the grill.
