The canopy filled back out nicely...and I pruned the roots along the concrete drive to delay problems there.

Here are some of the wounds from delivery vans attempting to pass underneath. Doesn't take but a couple of smacks to the roof and they find another place to turn around. :D

This live oak provides nice shade for part of the drive and sidewalk, too - and continues to be an attractive and useful part of the landscape.
 
Besides the mess/ clean up you now face,
It is a nice tree, but you have a very nice drive and that spot will be lovely with a slower growing tree, or just a small shrub for a corner. Nature takes care of things for us.
You seem like a very (tree smart) homeowner, good work researching this on your own and building a knowledge base about your property, most people just don't care, its nice to see another homeowner taking an active role in their property maintenance rather then just letting things happen.
