Why do all the guys looking for Stihls have decision-making disorders? Seems like every day there is a Help-me-decide thread for a 260/261/361/362/440/441/460/660.

Bring it on.

I agree CB, that is why I have all the saws you listed except for the 440 ad 460. I don't have to post anymore to help me decide.

Well, for me personally it is because I have only had the opportunity to try one of the listed saws. I was hoping to tap the experience of some people that have used the other saws. I actually did do a search and read many threads on the topic, but the results were very inconclusive. That's why I started a new thread with details on my specific needs. I thought I had determined which saw I was going to get, but this thread may have changed my mind...details to follow. Besides, if there were no threads like these there probably wouldn't be too much to talk about around here.

So what you going to get? I've had all the stihls in that list but a 441. I would like to try one sometime too.

If you have the means by either a dealer (willing to let you) or a member that has both a 460 and a 441 or 1 member with a 460 and another with a 441 that will meet with you, go try them both for yourself and make your decision that way. You are going to get a lot of opinions.

I have a 441, and i've run a 460 and 440. I like the 441 the best. It doesn't vibrate as much and is VERY smooth. the 460 has just a little more ponies that is nice w/ a 36" bar but the 441 pulls a 32" just as well. With 25" bars its pretty much a wash for power, but the 441 is smoother. Not going to knock ANY of the saws cause its like saying "i have 3 BMW's, which ones the best"

Let's just confuse him more:)

If I was making that decision I would probably get the 441.
I run a 5100 and a EHP7900. The 7900 will flat go though the wood! It will also go though the fuel.

You have the gas miser 261 so get the gas miser 441. If you decide that you need more power, wait for the 661.

I love gass sippers that will Stihl get the job done.

I'm working on a deal on a 440. I figured it would be nice to have the lighter weight than the 441 and 460. I can always switch to a 441 in the future, but finding a nice 440 will be harder as time goes on.

Just look at those curvy lines on that 441 man the aerodynamics alone make that saw look fast. Then look at those boxy 044, 460 kind of reminds me of a minivan.:hmm3grin2orange:

I have a 441 and a 066 and they both zip through the conifers like a hot knife thru butter, if I cut hardwood it is usually to clean up something in the yard and I use a smaller saw. The 441 is not that heavy I doubt that you would actually feel the difference between the 441 and the 044.

The 440 that was in the trading post is soon to be mine. I believe it was also previously owned by AS member Brian_NC. Here are some pics taken by the PO.

Good choice. And reasoning. Always nice to see members doing business with members.

The MS440(s) would be the last saws I'd give up from my stable. They just feel right! :biggrinbounce2:

I got to unpack the 440 this morning.

I haven't had a chance to run it yet, and we have a blizzard forecasted for tomorrow, so I'm not sure when I'll get to it.

Here's a pic of all the saws together for the first and last time.

I'm giving the 250 to my father. He has been using a Homelite XL12 since he bought it new in '68. I let him borrow it a while back and he loved it, so I'm going to give it to him. The 361 will probably be up for sale soon.

you must not like muscle cars either... do you drive a prius??

Actually I drive a 2000 chevy tahoe, old body style, and a 2007 jeep commander, both boxy. Something has to be said for a curvy car made in Germany, same goes with saws. I also have a couple old homies, made in America like the muscle car.
