I'm not intending to keep it, but the timing is good and it won't get grabbed by someone who will part it out.
I might let Aaron do an R&R on and sell it to someone who wants it. Anyways, it is almost worth the cost for the bar alone.
I am in a downsizing mode, going to pare things down to a manageable level, but that doesn't mean that I won't be keeping an eye on local saws.

That's good to hear, since you're certainly in an area where the big old saws are more likely to be found (compared to my area anyways). If it was a 2000/2100 I'd be tempted to knock over a 7-11 on the way up to have the funds to pay you for it.:D

You may be mixing up the 2100S and the Super 2100. Far as I know the big clutch cover was used only on the Super along with modified extension and wider clutch.

Also, I've only seen that winged bolt for the plug cover on my saw. Every other 2100/3100 has had the slotted bolt. Must be rare.

Chris B.

Right you are Chris!

The 2100S stands for "special" not "super". This just adds to complicated Homelite nomenclature.

The 2100S "Special" has the smaller muffler. I have three of them. The Super 2100 has the big muffler. I have none of those, but I have run Leeha's. The Supers don't really add to the performance, but the wide stance is really awesome looking. Getting one of those is definitely on my bucket list.

The 2000 has a regular appearing starter, and a unique back cover. The muffler guard is slightly different as well. The intake system is different, as it doesn't have the special idle hole in the carb, like the 2100 style intakes. This little known fact got me into some trouble with my resto.... lol.

Here's a pic of my resto 2100S again:

According to the IPLs, the downdraft (BIG) muffler along with the wider shield was optional on the 2100 Standard and pretty sure the 3100 as well. May have even been an option on the 2100 (plain). Pretty sure it wasn't in the listing on either the 2000 or the Super 2000. I've only ever seen it on 2100 Supers though. Not that you couldn't fit it though to any if you had all the parts. I think the wider stance would look great on a 3100 .

I think IPLs you are looking at have been updated to include the downdraft muffler as available for the 2100S. According to the sales sheet I have for the Super 2100, the downdraft muffler was a new feature along with the wide clutch and clutch cover.

ok i have a homelite xl-925 i like to find a new set of rings ...what i been told 155psi is on the low side

Who told you that? Homelite manuals recommended a re-ring at 90psi, 155 is not low. I have saws that run on 85psi...that's low, but they still run and cut, maybe not perfect... but they cut. I would not tear a saw down for 155psi.

I hear ya Chris... I've wondered the same thing after reading the Super 2100 sales flyer sheet. It didn't make any sense. I have only seen one version of the 2100 S IPL though, both printed and electronic, and they all look the same. The muffler is listed as an accessory on the bottom of page 3. 3100 IPL also shows it as an accessory also bottom of page 3. Only conclusion I've arrived at was the Super 2100 flyer mentioned it as sales hype, since technically it was standard equipment at first on it, yet it was optional previously.

This latest C5 I've been going thru has a bad bar oil leak. As in: "O.M.G. How am I going to get that off the garage floor!!"

To get the tank off you have to remove the R.H. crankcase cover. Right?

B.T.W. With new notched rings and no base gasket it pumps 140 psi.

Not sure what the one on my parts saw looks like, but I'll take a look in the AM, and it's yours if it's any good and you need it. Mine's pretty much bare case now, so I'll be able to see how it comes apart pretty easy for ya.

This is the old Homey that followed me home today. Not sure yet if it's a 1000 or 1020, not an auto oiler.

ARRRGH! Pic uploading isn't working for me right now, and it's time for a nap, so I'll give a quick rundown on it and try again with pics tomorrow.

The seller moved here from Idaho years back, and this saw came back with him. It started life as a logger's saw, and the guy gave me the name, but dang if I can remember it right now. The seller looked me up on here, and said he's registered here, maybe he will chime in with the rest of the story. (I have enough trouble listening to people when I'm just talking to them, when I'm looking over a possible new toy, a lot of it comes through my brain as blah, blah, blah  ) At any rate, it's been taking up space mostly since he moved here, he's got a newer saw for the limited cutting he does.

It shows the scars from being a work saw, but it seems pretty good mechanically. Compression is real strong, it's complete, all the levers, knobs, etc. work, the bar (shorter than I thought from the pics, 24") is pretty good yet, just needs a little dressing. It's got a Homelite (I think) chain - H in a box logo on the drivers, .404. It's got a rim sprocket on it. Fuel tank empty and clean, the oil tank looked to have some ATF left in it. It looks good enough that I'm gonna dump a little mix in tomorrow just to see if it'll run, and right now I wouldn't bet against it.

The not-so-good: There's a weld (JB Weld maybe) repair on the bottom left crankcase half, but it looks to have been that way for ages, and is probably just as solid as it looks. The bottom of the wrap handlebar has some pretty significant truck rash, with the tube partly worn away on one side. It's missing one attaching screw there, but I didn't look real close to see if it's broken off or just rattled out. The muffler is rotted out in several spots (case and cover). That's all I found so far.

If it doesn't fire off when I try it tomorrow, it will head to the project shed till I get more time (and a couple other in process saws finished), but it's gonna probably be the next one I tackle - it's got plenty of potential compared to some of the future projects in the shed - I might spend more time cleaning some of those saws than this one will take to run (hopefully)

Third time's the charm with pics I guess. They're not really great, taken down in the wood room with poor lighting and flash. I'll try for better ones tomorrow.

Yeah, there are plenty of big inch saws here abouts. However there are two problems with them, most have been run to death or the owners will not part with them. Sometimes it is both, a tired worn out saw with an equally tired worn out owner.
Southern Humboldt has many Homelites, the dealer was hot on it and had many loyal customers.

My head hurts. I'd think I'd rather go to work and supervise a BU workforce than dive into this.:bang:
