How did you get started on working on saws

I just can't stand to pay for someone to work on my stuff if it means missing some sort of learning opportunity while saving money.

Had an MS290 for several years cutting wood, never took a thing apart short of an occasional clutch cleaning. The time came that I wanted a slightly bigger saw and I didn't want to spend the money on a new saw. Instead I took the route of buy a fixer and learn something from fixing it.

Got hook, built one, then another, and now another is on the way. Going to have to start selling some of them now to fund this obsession of mine..lol!

Saws are such simple elegance when it comes to machanics, about as simple as it gets and it's just enjoyable taking a worn out retired machine and giving it not only a new life, a better than stock new life once again. It's my way of satisfying my mechanical tinkering need while paying tribute to the saws and the hard work they have done.

Oh and much cheaper than building cars or trucks or just about anything else in mechanical nature...There's not alot of money in it, but you can at least get what you put into them plus a little...
