how much more dangerous is a bigger saw

I live in a logging area, everyone is a logger pretty much, not one person that's been killed that I know and I have known several haven't died from being cut.
The tree is far more dangerous than the saw and that's what will hurt or kill you
Be very difficult to kill yourself with a cut.
A tree will kill you in a second.

if all there was was small wood and flat ground not many loggers would be getting killed anywhere in the world.

I'm still looking for a 77... I have about 6 running 65's though

For a solid body saw, the 65's/77's really don't have much vibration.. also really quiet... 77 has the same internals as the husky 480.
Old school husky .. 6x65s awesome they were very popular.. yes there's is maybe coulpe rubber pieces on Handel that's about it. Otherwise it's sheer chip Terror.[emoji106][emoji477][emoji16]

I've had a 77 for a year & a half, and altho I don't run it much I never noticed it didn't have anti- vibration.
Well it has couple pieces of rubber just not much. My 77 about a 1974 model what I have searched . There great saws.
Very low maintenance saw . Just a all around great chip maker. For big oak.

You seem to know your 77's. I redone my dads and from what I can gather it could be a ss77 maybe. It has a electronic coil and not points. What you think

Been cutting with an echo cs-450p for 5 years but today I bought a cs-620p.

I'm just a little apprehensive about the big saw, but then I also think that most saw accidents occur while limbing
and not in deep cuts.

Any advice on safety concerns moving to a bigger saw.

I won't limb with it only cut the big trunks.

Thanks

I hate to have to do this, but I'm going to have to take your Man Card, lol.

Thanks everybody.

Chain saws scare the crap out of me so I guess as long as I keep that respect I should do OK.

You've gotten good advice. Trees and tired are the biggest dangers.

I try to mitigate risk by using my chain brake pretty aggressively. I start the saw brake on, release the brake to warm up, move only with the brake on, and as soon as I have completed the cut, the brake is back on. It's a lot of extra wear and tear on the brake and drum, but I don't care. If the chain is stopped, so has a lot of the risk. It's one thing I do to manage my risks as an amateur operator. The replacement parts are all cheap compared to one ER visit. Just like chaps are cheap insurance.

Enjoy your saw. You'll like the power.

What does your tag say.. here's mine. I never needed to take the flywheel off mine. But I need to investigate mine also I used it sence 1982 I always thought it had CDI but after searching Its hard to believe it has points because mines 1974 model . Unless they sold a CDI setup for them and mine was upgraded before I got it . It still don't miss a beat far as ignition goes. You have sweet setup there. You did a great job . I seen they have decals on eBay for them also. I don't know how good they are. It's pretty hard to believe my points if that's what it does have would last 35 years at average 7-10 cord a year. Will check your pics out closer on computer. [emoji106][emoji477]

It just has the serial left. What finally put this one down was the paint turning loose in the fuel tank and kept stopping up the carb screen. Then scored the piston. The cylinder was good. Parts were kinda hard to come by. Everything rubber was replaced.

Is that 3/8 chain ? You know you. Really lean them out for power but keep track of spark plug color.

3/8 20". Its made some cuts. It was a tad rich last time I used it, But having to pull the cover to tune it I left it for now.

I can tell yours is the newer style made in Yugoslavia. Could be a SS.
That be like gold .. other guys in forum know about the ss77. They will chime in .

I will snap pic of my carb settings . Everything is stock on my carb .

Mine only starts to load up after about min of idle. Otherwise no smoke on husky xp oil 50:1. Or hardly any smoke.

The L77 and 480 are pretty much the same saw AFAIK, crank, cylinder, piston, but the 480 had CDI and antivibe suspension, so it's probably an easy swap to put a 480 ignition in a 65 or 77... Hardly any point to it though (pun intended), unless the ignition has died.. they have exceptionally reliable mechanical ignitions..

How can you tell the difference between the Yugoslavian and Swedish models.. one of my 65's is Yugoslavian, and I can't find anything different about it (except it took a bath in red paint, and had a chain brake)

Look at my tag font was larger on mine said made in Sweden. And one that said tumcos Yugoslavia had smaller font like the end of his number you could see on his tag there smaller so his for sure built after 1974 . And yes 480 ingintion swapping could of took place.

Woodblocker55

Maybe my old 77L has 480 ingintion. Intil I have to take it apart I will never know.

you should be able to judge by grabbing the spark plug lead and giving it a good tug :p

I'm sure you could do a resistance check on the kill switch wire,.. most likely the points and CDI units would have different resistance values there.. darned if I know it though
Not much fun pulling those flywheels.

When I did the build I knew little about the old huskys I've always worked on Stihl. My dad bought it from a logger in 83ish and the logger said he bought it in 78'. A few people on here mentioned the 480 coil could have got swapped on it So when I had it apart I looked close and seen no evidence that points were ever mounted.
I used a Stihl flywheel puller on it.
