good times. Lots of 460 owners. So, i went by to order the stihl big dawgs, roller chain catcher, and DP cover, but the parts guy wasn't in. I left the numbers i wanted on his desk. I'll have to call him tomorrow. Anybody done any air intake mods that helped out powerwise?

I bought the first 046 my dealer ever put on his floor, since then I've had 6 others counting the three that I still have.I prefer the 440 but now that they are gone the 460 is my replacement choice.

Just curious, why the 440?

Lighter, and it really gives nothing up to the 460....With a few tweaks it will walk over a stock 460..I do alot of crane removals and the 440 also handled better (for me anyway) up in the tree....But I do like the 460 over the 441.

What kinda tweaks? What kinda tweaks should i do to my 460? DP cover on the way tomorrow.

You will have to join the to-be-created 044/440 club to find out. Then that one can be merged with the 460 club into the 044/046 + 440/460 group, which would be a better group. Or you could change the 460 club to include them all. They are very similar saws with similar mods.

I prefer the 044 to the 046 myself. Lighter, easier to manage, and they can be modded with a 460 DP stock cover ($32 at the dealer) for a nice power boost. They are also fairly easy to port mod.

how do i edit the group name? And this thread title?

Cannot edit this thead title. Only mods can do that. Make the group name when you create the group. Also cannot edit the group name once it is created. You can change the group moderator over to someone else, or dissolve the group (and create a new one in its place if you want).

are those the factory stihl big dawgs?

They look like the roller dogs that I have on my 044. It has the large side cover, large dual doggies, the roller, and a 3/4 wrap. These are all Stihl parts on mine. It also has the HO oil pump.

I ordered the DPcover, and big dawgs and roller, Limiter tool, and 2 replacement limiters today. Tech on the phone advised against messing with the carb, said if i tried to "turn it up" with today's ethanol gas i'd scorch the piston. I explained i didn't use ethano gas. Then he advised against it anyway, i tried to explain i wasn't turning it up, i was richining it up. He finally just said "well, i'll order your parts for you....." Lol. I mixed 4 gallons of fresh 100LL today with new stihl oil. After thats gone, im going to HP ultra.
