I would stay with the hdb

I got some run time on this Craftsman 3.7 I got from @joe25DA. Benefited from a muffler mod. Cuts real smooth, good saw.

Just scooped up a friggin minty 3800. I’m trying to get this thing tuned and it looks like the guy botched the rebuild, stripped screws for the diaphragm cover, etc…
It currently has the Walbro HDB 8b in it. Does anybody know of anything comparable or better that would fit? Thanks!

The later carb was a HDB-19, both work.

There are $25 used carbs listed on fleabay if you can’t seal your HDB-8 up.

How does 1 get at the oil pump in these lil things?

A mate asked me to sus out its non pumping issue. Well I owe him a favour

As standard, there is an oil pump under the clutch and wires nearby ;-)

90% of the time, the plastic gears are stripped & it needs a pump kit. Item 58 on the first page. 530071259

The little worm gear spring won't give you much of a fight to come off. One comes in the kit…but usually not worn out.

No truly a 5020. Newer saw.

Paid 169 shipped for my test unit years ago.

Most I see used today running 75-100.

The 5020 is a 50cc saw and is ok. It is a strato design and you really cannot do a lot of modifying to it.
They do benefit from a good muffler mod and they will perform pretty much like a 50cc saw. Worth fixing up I would say yes. I have two by the way.

Could you explain the “strato design”.Just trying to get a better understanding of differences in chain saws.Thanks in advance.
