That saw, with proper maintenance will last your buddy a long time.
I can't believe you let him take it home. At the very least you should have kept it and broken it in properly for him, 20-30 tanks of mix ran through it would be about right.
I would go ahead and use the recommended 50:1 ratio for break-in, no sense in changing what has been proven to be a good thing. I do believe that dino oil rather than synthetic is better for the initial break-in period but thats just me, others may differ with my opinion on that. Cheers and congrats to your buddy.
