Hey guys I'm going to start a good size saw collection. I don't want to deal with this computer stuff. Maybe down the road 20 yrs or so not now.

I mostly stay in the 30-60cc range. A few 70s.

Right now I have echo cs400 Stihl 012 av Stihl 362 and dolmar 7910 on the way.

What are some good stihls in the 30-60 range? Even 70?

Looking for newer not really the 0 series.

Actually I'd look at husky and dolmar too. And echo.

Used only.

You're missing out on some of the best old saws that are in the "0" series. Not to mention Mcculloch, Homelite, Poulan, and the bazillion others made from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Don't limit yourself.

Must haves for a multi-brand collection...............(IMO)

Below 50CC: 242XP (the 15,500 rpm scalpel) , 346 original edition, 024

50-55cc: 346XP/2153, 026, 254XP, Jonny 2055, 034 (not sure on the cc's there), Solo 651Pro

60cc: 262XP, 630Super, Dolmar 116SI, 036/361, 041AV (coolest idle of any saw)

70CC: 372XP/2171, 038 mag, 044mag, 120SI, 670Champ, 268XP/272XP, Jonny 70E (no collection should be without one, and they still hold their own today) And another 372XP/2171 'cause it defines perfection.

I'll add in a few. Pioneer p42. 66cc of raw power, Imo one of the best saws ever made.
Pioneer p62/poulan pro 655. Puts most other saws to shame.
Homelite super ez. 41cc, 9 pounds, and cuts way out of its class.
And every collection has to have a 5ci+ gear drive. McCulloch or homelite. (I chose both)
And the most important rule of saw collecting. NEVER buy a mini mac.....
I have everything on this list except the p62/655, haven't seen one for sale yet, if I ever do it will be mine. The p42 and super ez will do most cutting you will ever need to.

Try to go to a couple of GTGs and take a good look and feel of some of the real beauties that show up. You'll end up with a wish list a lot bigger than "a good sized collection".

The 034 is a bit more than those 55cc - same bore and stroke as the 357xp = 56.5cc. The 034 Super is 61.5cc.

A McCullough SP125C usually gets put on the short list along with a Homelite 2100 super. ..........I guess if I hadb to collect saws under 70cc the little Orlines would be on the list, I would also look for saws that are a bit more uncommon from companys like Solo, Oleo Mac, Olympic, and so on.
