Stihl 026 vs 028

What are the max recomended bar
& chain setups and the optimum setups for these saws? I have a couple projects of each and wondering how they compare.

16 inch 325 or 3/8. 18-20 inch 325. 16 optimum 20 max.

Yes, pretty comparable saws with the 026 having a slight edge.

18" .325 on my 028S is awesome. My go-to "small" saw.

I run 16" .325 on my 028 Super and all my 026's.

16 to 18, run whatever came with saw. If you're setting up, rallying like. 325 set up on 50 cc.

I have two 028's one with a 16 inch bar and a 20 inch 028 roller tip Stihl bars.

I like the 16 bar for trimming after the tree is down and the longer bar mainly for felling and cutting the larger sections of a felled log.
Have to keep a little more heads up with the 20 inch bar to keep the bar nose tip out of the dirt.

No power issues with the 20 inch bar. I have some other Stihls with the 20 inch bar.
If you are into 16 inch logs or larger go with the 20 inch bar. If into smaller stuff like for cutting firewood most often you will like the 16 inch bar.

If you want to get er dun stay away from the low kickback type chains. I use aggressive cut name brand chains.

How much difference is there between the 026 and 028. Seems like I hear more about the 026. I have a hard nose 16" bar and a 20" .063 .325 bar for the saws and I was making sure they would work ok on them. Thanks!

026 revs quite a bit higher and is a little lighter, 028 is a little heavier and slower with a little more torque. Both are excellent saws and very well built.
