This thread has me thinking. I run my 034 with 20 inch full chisel 3/8. Maybe I should try .325 or skiptooth. Or maybe drop back to a 16 inch bar. Points to ponder...
I really like the 036, particularly the later versions - the 036-pro and MS360...
The 361 can do a little more than the 360, but not that much more....
OK.............I will buy that...............I just didn't like the 036!!!
Fair enough!
Trust me..........I am not going to bash the 036/360 and say that the 361 is the be all end all saw of the 60cc class..........we have plenty of blowhards here to do that already!!!
Nope............last I looked dealer had 147 new Stihl saws in the box
not counting the ones in back ready to go plus display saws.
I was aiming that at whoever said you could get a 440 and a 441. The dealer said that when he told one of his customers that the 440 were not being produced anymore the guy bought the last 3 he had.
I wanted the tried and true 440 when I bought my 441, but the 3 dealers I went to said "Good luck finding one" and they didnt act interested in trying to find one. I was a little spooked by the new strato engine in the 441, but I dont regret it now.
I wish more people would follow that strategy.I won't comment on a saw that I haven't ran.
I bought a saw once, I liked it a lot!!!!
I bought another saw once, didn't really impress me.
What do you do?:monkey:

Lets try this comparison!!!
I was never a big fan of the 036. In stock form is was just a lackluster saw. Since coming here I have ran one that I muffler modded for a friend and the saw was better.
The 361 comes out and it does everything the 036 didn't............namely pulling an 18-20" bar with 3/8's chain with authority. Add to that the better AV that the 361 has.
The 361 gets my vote!!!
I have hundreds of hours on 034 and 036's, 95% with 20 in. bars. They all pulled 20 in. of 3/8 with plenty of authority in hardwoods up to 15 inches or so. I have run my nephews 361 about 10 hours and to me it didn't feel as powerful. I believe it will get better when its broke in well so I will not say its less. Mabe the 036 you got your initial impression from wasn't well tuned. A clogged air filter or improper carb adjustment will make any saw feel like a dog. The av on the 361 is no doubt better, as for me 4 or 5 hour s a day on a 036 does not seem to be a problem.
