G'day All,

Just bought an 076, with a few differences. Due to the lack of parts the former owner took a few liberties to keep it going - namely:

* Removal of chain brake and installation of standard bar/chain cover
* Installation of a TS760 (Demo Saw) air filter base and filter housing (great filtration, but looks a little off)
* Atom Ignition module - Brown

I'm wanting to return it to it's former glory. Could any body explain the differences in all of the model abbreviations for the 076. Like whats, a "Super", EQ, AV etc.

I'm also looking for advice on ignition modules; OEM, Atom etc.

By the way, its running .404 on a 36 in bar and regulary is put to work on dry aussie redwood, up to 30+ inches, and has no problems at all with it - runs strong and wasn't a bad buy for 400 bucks. Had a summer rebuild - gaskets and seals all round.

If anybody has 076 bit n pieces, in Australia, that they dont wont send us a message and I'll have a look

Cheers and Thanks in advance
John

There is another user here, BobL, who is in Australia (albeit at the other end of the continent near Perth) who uses an 076 for chainsaw milling. He might be able to hook you up with a more local parts source. Fire him a message, he's a super guy and knows his stuff.

Another member here from Adelaide is "gmax",he has a couple of current postings in the "Photos" thread.(Wouldn't be surprised if you knew each other already,things like that happen everyday.)

i just got an 076 last week too.
EQ = electronic quick stop
AV = anti vibration
i just got a few parts for mine through motor mecca toowoomba , they had to order the parts in but thats the norm these days no one carries stock any more

oh yeah the super has a different carb set up that much i do know

and there was a new sprocket cover with chain brake to fit the 076 sold on ebay today , i should of bought it for a spare but i let it go ( maybe it was you that bought it )

Thanks

I lost that auction for the chain brake housing in Ebay Aus.

I'll keep hunting. The local Stihl shop has a TS760 Demo saw that've been robbing parts from. I haven't been looking at the filter housing, but I'm heading down there tomorrow and will have a look for you

Cheers
John

I think I remember reading that the carb is the same, but there is a different manifold on the 076 Super. I can pull mine apart and try to get a pic of the manifold for you if you like.

The Super had a different carb according to the IPL. It also had an addition spacer in the intake tract, making the air filter and cover set higher. This also made it require holes in the frame/handle in order to access the carb adjustment screws. Other than that, they're the same saw. All these differences were discussed in the thread where I built mine from scratch starting with a set of NOS cases. LINK

I misremembered the carb info from your thread Brad. Here are some pics I took of the Super.

The carb is the Walbro WS26:

Here's a shot of the spacer:

I'm gonna throw a wrench in the gears here - I might have a line on a cheap TS760 that I'm waiting to see a couple pictures of. If it's in decent shape I'm going to convert it over to an 076.

The biggest problem with that idea is it has no oiler (read replace half case)

I was under the impression that the oiler parts could be installed into the TS760 case with a bit of work after reading up on the subject a bit. Maybe those folks were just speculating too, not sure. The left case has a plug in the oil filler hole anyway.

no, I work on ts760 railsaws for the railway all the time,they even leave the carcass saws with me, if they were easily converted i would have a stack of 076s to the roof. parts donors only i'm afraid. the oil tank is used to capture vented fumes and gas so sparks don't set the machine on fire.

But is that still the case with the old, original TS760s from the '70s? Because apparently that's what this one is. I've seen pictures (though admittedly not really detailed ones) of some of the old ones and they look for all intents and purposes the same as an 076 but with the high air filter cover.

I wouldn't lie to you! trust me when I say I have tried. Lots of donor parts just not the crankcase.

Bits n Pieces

Well if you have lots of donor parts, care to handle a shopping list then and put it all in a box for shipping ? :)
