I've got a nicely finished 026 P&C prototype here from Baileys for review. It has the larger 44.7mm bore of the MS260. The casting quality is better than what I'm seeing of the Stihl branded jugs. It's just that pretty. Being the hotrod junky that I am, I actually ported it before installation. Baileys is most interested in the fit at this point. I was not to be disappointed. It looks to be running right with my MS260 with an 044 carb. This one's still running an original 260 carb, although polished up a little. The cut times are right on the heal of my 346, right where my 260 was the last time I compared them. Compression is 175 PSI on the first tank of fuel.

This kit is not currently available. I'm sure it'll be available soon enough though.

Is the kit from a different manufacture or are they just stepping up there quality ?

For a small saw it sure cuts good. I had a 026 a few years back but it never cut that good. Traded it for a Edelbrock carb for my old Ford pickup.

I'm not sure on the manufacturer. However, I do know that major steps are, and have been, taken to improve quality control. Gregg made posts to that effect recently, after returning from visiting the manufacturers.

Is it a Woodsman Pro or something entirely new?

I know someone's going to ask why I'd run it without a filter. I agree entirely that is something you don't want to do. However, the 026/260 filter are major know bottle necks. My personal 260 sees about a 1,000 RPM gain in RPMs when removing the filter. The carb is quite restrictive as well. I suppose this P&C might outrun my 260 and 346 if put on my 260 with the 044 carb. I'm thinking I may install a small v-stack and either run a K&N + Outerwear, or just stretch panty hose over it for racing.

something I wanted to ask you, what the max safe rpm for 026 with muffler mod. If these go to production soon looks like you will be busy porting quite a few:clap:

I'm not sure Tom. These prototypes usually come in a plain white box.

Ok, was just wondering. I had a customer about a month ago come in with a 260, fried motor. He didn't like the price of OEM parts so I told him he could get a kit from Baileysonline for around a 100.00. He did. About a week later he brings me the saw and his new Woodsman kit. He sat there with me as I installed it on the saw. Oddly the piston would not go to the top of the cylinder, it would stick and stop. Never encountered anything like that. We fooled with it for over an hour and it would not turn completely over. I know your no fan of Stihl cylinders but that kit was by far the worst of any piston/ cylinder I have ever seen. Casting was awful inside and out and with the piston sticking near the top of the cylinder apparently the diminsions were way off as well. Course for 100.00 bucks one can't expect too much but I did expect the thing to at least be able to turn over.

He called me a few days later and told me Baileys was sending him another kit and for him to pitch the old one. Thats great customer service. A few days after that call he called me again wanting to bring his second kit over along with the saw for me to put together. I told him no, do it yourself, I had already showed him how to assemble the unit. He goes ok. I haven't heard back from him so I guess the second kit worked out ok. Even so that one kit reinforces what I've always done, use OEM. Never encountered a problem with OEM parts. I didn't charge the man for my labor, I could have but I didn't. I felt bad for him and I only charge when things work. There won't be anymore Woodsman kits on this ole boys bench for sure.

yup, People will try to get every last bet out of you they can. You showed him everything and he still wanted you to do it again.... people are strange i tell ya.

Cant go wrong with OEM but their is a lot of quality aftermarket.
Lets say Baileys p&c was 10 times Better then the stihl ones would you use and recommend them more to your customers? Maybe a dum question to ask a dealer but... i'm curious.

I completely understand your frustrations Tom. We're on the same page. I do not believe this is a current offering. That's why I'm testing it.

I wasn't frustrated, I was like what the f-----k. I never seen anything like that. I thought man I told this guy where to buy this thing from, yikes. I didn't feel too bad about it though nor did he. He kept telling me its not your fault, I got what I paid for. I didn't get into any of that with him but was thinking yup, your right.

I was happy to hear they treated him good with a new kit and didn't even ask for the old one back according to him. Thats dayumm good service, most would have wanted that bad kit back. I sure as hell won't be doing anymore advertising for those kits though, no way. I felt like I had steered the man wrong but the other side of me was going don't worry about it, he chose cheap, so be it...
