I have been working on this for quite some time!(way to much)
I want it for my milling purposes. and to have if I want, to run different size chains and rims.

My buddy is a mech. engineer, who has helped me communicate with the drafter, and machinist!
Talk about a lot of detail!(carbon mold(s) epd machining, broaching, burning, hardening, and the list goes on!) A good learning experience! Hopefully with the long week end I can tear into it, and give the prototype a real work out in some knotty pin oak, then some huge beech I have in the pile! But it will be worth it! At least for me!

That's a great looking piece. I know quite a few guys who will be wanting one of those for their 090Gs.

Wouldn't mind one myself. I made one up for an 041G which was much less effort. I had allusions of doing the same for the 090G. Unfortunately, I ran out of gas. Kudos to Teddy.Scout and his partners.

That looks REALLY good. Did you start with a original gear or is that all from raw stock?

Bill

I don't have the exact steel name, but it is all new from tool steel, that we are able to get it to around 58-60+ rockwell strength. Finished with the fitting yesterday and and noticed between the 3 final gear shafts a 1 thousands difference. We made them with a arbor shaft size shaft with 1/2 thousands larger then the mean of the 3.

The original looks as though it was cast with the back side turned. I like how the used that room in the spur for the drivers!! It was tough to just put a rim key on there, while still leaving the room to allow the rim to float to center!!!
But got that all worked out, while making it 3 thousands thicker at the weak point! I hope I can get a testing in over the next 4 days to get any other major kinks out. Not going to push it though. Because I have 50 blanks made, and don't want to have rush this. It will be a nice set up! Especially having that rim set-up will give me a lot of options with my 090G's

-The first tanks was with a .404 .063 on a 60" gb bar.
-now I drilled out a 44" gb bar for a 066, put that on the 090G. 3/8 .,050 chain! with a 8t rim.
-After that I am going to put a Stihl roll-matic 36" bar .404 .63 chain.

Then see how all points look at each rim and on the sprocket!
It's cool to have versatility!!!!

COOL!!!!!! I need to hear that a couple times more!!!
I would like to sell about half of them at least!!!!!!
Let me run at least 20 tanks of fuel through them(and I cut through a couple 4 tanks today! Arms are shot!!!!!! LOL
So I can have some type of assurance before they go out!
So far so good. I have used .404 8t and 3/8 8t so far!

Thanks HOSS
More pics later tonight!

I have a real nice spur gear on my 090G that was made by another member here, but it sure would be nice to have the option of a rim drive too.

I also have a couple of the spur gears!
By PA Plumber and they are pristine!
I got the latest batch and they are PERFECT! The hardness is is amazing as well, any one who knows machining knows that can be difficult , but he has it DOWN PAT! Awesome machining!!!!!!
For any one who doesn't need a rim sprocket set up, This is who you want to see! I recently got another 090G and he also had also bought 3 from PA PLUMBER. All in all I have 6 of his .404 spur gears! so I am well stocked on those!
I was just already knee deep in this project to back out, plus I want to run 3/8 5/8 chain to mill those NICE logs I get in.(gives me a extra board on logs larger the 3' in diameter especially when get a figured cherry, walnut, sugar maple but in, not to mention the priceless oak and walnut crotches!!)

Here's a pick of his work!!!! PERFECTION!!!!!
