So this came up in MCW's 660BB thread. For everyone that thinks they have a Stihl branded cylinder... does it infact have a K and S overlayed?
Like this;

In which case it is Kolbenshmidt.
KSPG AG - KS Kolbenschmidt

My 075 has those same markings on it, I just figured it was aftermarket.

ptjeep, man I like your Jeep. I use to have a 1949 Willys Jeep 4WD Pickup--4 cylinder,3 speed transmission,two speed transfer case, 538 rear end and rear springs knee deep. Dude that was mean truck.

JDNicol, so in Europe Stihl uses Mahle and Kolbenschmidt cylinders. Here in the U.S. they are using Mahle and Phaelon. Thanks for the info.

I don't think it as simple as that. Gilardoni are in the mix aswell.

I also believe Stihl have/still do some e.g. http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/62615.htm

I just think some people may have KS cylinders thinking they are Stihl ones. KS seemed to go off the radar with respect to smaller engine stuff but have apparently made a reappearance. Note all the cylinders pictured above are relatively old.

Also I have seen KS pistons in Mahle cylinders coming out of VA Beach.

JDNicol, well the way it's going in a few more years the cylinders will have a dragon on them with that funny looking little writting that looks like symbols.

I don't think Phelon is making any cylinders for Stihl unless it's weed trimmer type cylinders that I haven't perused
the technical bulletins on. They don't advertise as making any OPE cylinders on their website.

Can't say I've seen those markings on the later 660 cylinders. Also the finisn on the cylinders is extremely poor. You can't fault their reliability or power however.
To me the finish and quality of their later Stihl cyclinders is bad and way worse than the better Chinese/Taiwanese cylinders. The above link to an older thread from JDNicol has said Brazilian made but also says they are top quality.
Good info though - thanks :cheers:

I just disassembled two 028 Supers....1 has the mahle cylider and the other has the "stihl" cylinder with the K/S

The "stihl" cylinder is in much better shape - how is the quality on these older units?
