First off, alot of credit needs to be sent out to fellow member Vibes. He pointed this saw out to me thinking I would be interested in it, ,which of course I was. He then helped me out after makeing the deal with the seller by taking time out and a detour from his way home from work to pay for it, pick it up and then shipped it to me.

So I want to say out loud, Thanks Vibe, your one of the good ones here!

Now here is the saw, its a Allis Chalmers 295! Poulan made these for Allis in the early 70's based on there 306SA. Very early 70's in fact as everything on this one points to very early, almost all the early stuff on it and is actually the same as the earlier 203 except for the ign switch set up on it. You can see it has the early style 4 shoe clutch, metal choke rod, ND ign coil and flyweel etc.

The saw was in great shape really and was running but I pulled it all down for inspection and a good cleaning. It just needed the useal old saw stuff. The clutch cover was missing half the decal and was bowed from not being installed properly but I had another cover that I picked up on ebay a year or two ago, thinking I would find one of these someday. I picked it up at the time for like $5 if I rembember right.

I think it cleaned up very well and it runs great now.

Rep Vibes whenever you get the chance.

Nice bar too!

The bar is one I had here but is near the same as what would have come on this saw when new.

I want to do a little more research on this and might try to find a Barracuda style chain to put back on it since all the rest of the Power Sharp setup is on it. I "think" the AC Power Sharp saws like this one came with 3/8's chain which is strange as the Poulan 306SA came with a .325 Barracuda chain on them.

Nice! I'm an Allis guy myself, and wouldn't mind an original AC/Poulan , but I think I'm gonna take my Dayton 245 and make a "phantom" Allis saw and paint it Persian II and slap a AC decal on the clutch cover. I wonder if the decal guys could make a modified airbox decal with 395 on it....

I'm not a Poulan aficionado so it was interesting to see the cap. I first thought it was a temporary cap. Looks like a nice saw in the right hands. :smile2:

Very Nice Mark, and kinda rare too for sure. And your right, I can see a striking resemblance to the 203 Poulan.
My 203 has that same coil, and the do everything switch up on top. And a roller nose to boot. I could never figure any rhyme or reason for the two different type mufflers they used during that era.

Gregg,

Mark- that is one cool saw, nice work. We need to get you the outside dawg though.

Actually I need several of those dogs! I have made a couple but there a PITA, need to find someone with a laser to make a few copies. Those #12 screws and lock nuts that fasten them are getting hard to find as well.

I gotta see that! :msp_thumbsup:

Gregg,

Gregg, your picture shows the main difference between this saw and the 203. The molded Poulan in the clutch cover, the round fuel cap and the all in one decomp, fast idle and off switch.

This saw has the early style decomp which is activated by the throttle lock but it has the toggle on/off switch, makeing it a 306SA.

My point was this one has all the early features including the older style recoil handle, like the one on the 203.

Seems when the 306 was introduced was when the went to the cast aluminum mufflers on them. Only the later 306 with the electronic ign got the tin muffler but they were a one screw tin muffler.

That thing is SHARP!
I'm tickled pink to see you get that saw Mark.
I know how much you wanted a saw to go with that pristine clutch cover!
Looks like it runs out great too.

I will certainly hunt Vibes down and throw a shot of MOPAREP!!!!! his way for the assist.

Mike the good thing is the cover that came on this saw is still useable, it just has a slight bow in it and a bad decal. I could always paint it lime green if need be.

I still find it hard to believe that I missed that other AC on ebay a while back that was very nice, just missing that cover that I happened to have. :hmm3grin2orange:

Now the hunt for a AC 85, 95 and 195. :msp_thumbsup:

Very nice saw , Mark, I didn't realize Allis sold saws, we used to have an Allis dealer in our small town back in the 70's, will have to keep an eye out for you, Vibes sure did you right!
