Here's a new MS201T for you fellers to get acquainted with. It came all the way from the west coast for a tweak. I was really looking forward to doing the works on this little saw until I checked out the size of the ports and the timing numbers. I see no reason to molest the plating inside this jug. I did set the squish at .018, advance the ignition timing 10° and mod the muffler.

Here's a few pictures.

It is a stratified engine as most of you guys already know. The carb is divided like the MS261. Have a look....

This saw is rev limited at 13,200 by my tach.....and tuning it is a bit of a pain. After the mods it does bump the limiter at times even when starting and coming out of the cut. It'll take some getting used to. Yes there is video of this saw and of a mildly ported 200T uploading.

Here's a few shots under the recoil.

Check out that tangled up mess.

after going thru them both- is the revered 200 still the better saw,or do you think the 201 is an improvement?

The squish was at .032 when I tore it down. Most of you guys know how I feel about compression.....I think it is king if you are building a naturally aspirated performance engine of any kind.....so I cut enough out of the squish band to ditch the base gasket and end up at .018.....

Here's some pics of the jug and slug.

The squish after I shaved it a bit....

I like this notched skirt, it lets the intake open progressively. There are notches that allow the intake charge bleed into the strato ports too, but the pic was a blur.....

Plenty of exhaust port for a 35cc engine.

They have these transfer cover on with epoxy or something.......wish they were bolted on.

The uppers are progressive as well.

Slick work on saws these days........gotta always remember.....the engineers that design these things ain't stupid. We don't have to reinvent them to make em run, just enhance what is there.

No muffler gasket on this saw.......the muffler is stamped to fit into the port thereby sealing it. See? these cats are smart. :)

Now before y'all hang me up for cutting so much outta the clutch cove I want you to know that is was cracked when I got it so I took more out than I normally would have. The owner alerted me to the crack so I wouldn't blame the postal service. :D

well, unless I counted wrong...
the 200t was around 21 seconds in the cut and the 201 was closer to 29/30 seconds in the cut. I may be off- fighting Madalyn in my lap for control of the computer.

I have another 201T here that I'm going to mod as well. It belongs to a friend that's open to anything that makes more power......we may do it like the 261 and cut out the intake to nullify the stratos. :msp_biggrin:

That's probably right Steven. The 201T hasn't been ported at all. Plus it's on it's first tank of fuel......I figure it'll wake up after a dozen or so.

The one thing to take out of this though, is the 201 is a great running saw with very minimal mods. Excellent throttle response and more power than the typical MMd 200. It is a shame that it needs any mods, but all is not lost on it.

I wonder how this one will run after break in?
