I was out to dinner with 8 guys and their daughters the other night and we were all sitting around a table talking about various projects around the house. One guy at the end of the table is an executive for a local big company and he lives in a house with a 1/2 court basketball court in it. :jawdrop:

He said the only tool he knows how to use well, and the only tool he wants to use is his checkbook.

I don't know why but - and this is about the original post, not the sidetrack its got off to - it seemed to me that maybe what the guy was doing was getting some good seasoned wood to tide him over as they got to work making their own wood for next year and beyond.

Did I misunderstand?

I might have done the same thing in my first year or two in a new place. There's a lot going on and they just might not have got to clearing just yet and want good wood for this winter, with the expectation they will be using their shinny new equipment to take care of next year's needs.

Just trying to be a nice guy and look for the bright side. Oh, and you could have bought ten cords of wood here for that much money.

wood heat is supposed to be cheap lol i would just burn fuel oil or pro-pain if a cord of wood was anywhere near those prices ,i think people who buy wood around here give 120-150 tops for a full delivered cord but then again i rarely pay for wood

I have not heard bad mouthing maybe confusion over why they would pay when they have ample resource but yeah I guess in a way it is talking smack. I am sick of the other and feel it's high time for a change and one that don't mean amnesty for criminals either!

I think maybe you could be suffering from a little burnout. Or maybe just buying in to the obama class-envy stuff. If rich people bother you, stay away from them. But IMO the rich people are the ones that have the money to buy what I would like to be selling them. I am in this kind of work by choice so maybe I cannot understand the hostility, since I am happier than a pig in #### when I am out in the woods making little pieces out of big ones. Your results may vary.

I ain't buying into #### it is before my eyes pal. I got into the tree business in 83 and stayed in it but now am bidding against illegals living fifteen deep in a one room shack climbing barefoot and cutting down trees with machete's and I took video of these illegal three machateers doing a job for a rich man I bid on, with my license and insurance, advertising and every other legit bs they put you though. I tell you what, it always is the rich neighborhoods this crap go's on most. I get almost every job I bid in middle class working hoods but when it is in the areas where senators and representatives reside, it go's to illegals almost everytime.
Don't believe me, just drive through on a warm sunny day look at who is in their yards working and you may end up with a video like mine<a href="http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&lpver=3&ref=11" target="_blank"><img src="http://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/000201D9.gif" border="0" title="Click to get more." ></a>

Rope, I hear ya' man. A state senator here ran up a $27,000.00 bill with my dad for a small computer system for her re-election campaign. She only paid a couple of grand on it and then said she was out of money, meaning her campaign. She herself had plenty of money, but insisted that the law would not let her spend her own money. It is set up that way by crooks like herself who want to avoid paying. She knew she would never pay him, she admitted it later. She thought that being able to say you had sold her a computer would create all kind of business.

Meantime she is paying huge money to have a wing at the new hospital named after her.

Strategy I have adopted is just finding the honest people and working for them. I give them a good deal and it return they treat me honestly too. I've used financial records to help unseat more than one elected official that was less than honest. I kind of got burned out on that, it takes a ton of leg work and research and I would rather be climbing trees. Besides it paints a target on you and I don't want that now that I have a family.

That is what I was thinking when I read the original post... :agree2: and what I was trying to say...

People are weird-period. Had a customer, a neighbor who bought 2 loads from me at $120 a half cord for 50/50 seasoned mixed hard soft. LOVED the wood. So the other day I had a load laying around, went by to see if they needed some. Nope just bought some!
He showed it to me, he paid $200 for a "cord" that was about 3 foot high by 4 foot wide by 7 feet long....about 3/4 of a cord of dried out pine!!! He drives by my house everyday..I didnt understand, I though he was happy? He said he didnt see me working out there, thought I was out of wood. Yep, out of wood with about 10 truck loads visible from the street. He will have to beg me to sell to him again. I would rather have 10 good customers who need 4 loads a year than 40 customers who need 1 load a year. Just a small guy so thats all I need...no flaky customers period.

Well shoot friend I enjoy the occasional flake, sorta reaffirms my sanity if there is such a thing lol:laugh: I only sell seasoned hard wood all oak, hickory. I burn the crap like hackbury, elm, and such I never have one customer bad mouthing my wood.

I saw an ad for $110 a cord, dried split delivered. I have at least 4 cords sitting around here for future use, but was thinking man, I could spend all spring/summer/fall sitting on the boat catching crappies with the kids, and not cutting wood next year. AT that price, I could see skipping the work. I dont drive to town as much any more, or I'd load it up on my trailer and deliver it for $200 a cord.

$110 per full cord here....you guys getting 300$....you got it going on.
We get $250 per cord(all Oak) here across the river from St. Louis, we've almost sold out this year and already have orders for next year.
$110 will get you a rank and some kindling.
Of course you have some losers around here on Craigslist selling pickup truck loads as cheap as $50, it's not too much work walking the river banks and selling "driftwood"!

Holy crap! Never realized firewood was so expensive around the country. northern michigan you can buy seasond oak for $40 a face cord and guys will deliver it free if you buy 2 or 3. Some guys charge up to $60 but they only get the tourists. Most guys still cut their own because they don't want to pay the $40. Here we sell campfire wood to the weekend warriors which is about 10 pieces of bucked slab wood for $5

She knew she would never pay him, she admitted it later.

Obtaining credit without the intention to pay is called fraud, and is prosecutable. Is your county prosecutor or state attorney general from her opposing party?

Is there a contract? Did she sign it? Is there any wording that might be considered, any way you twist it, as a personal guarantee of payment?
If so, sue the ##### and hand out press releases. If not, just do the press releases and point out the fact that she's a criminal.

Hell, if it were me, I'd file a petition for a recall election based on the fact that she's a felon and send out press releases for that. Can you tell that I don't like thieves, and think that thieves in positions of public responsibility should be hung from the neck until dead?

The bad thing for guys in IL is they can't legally ship it to St. Louis. They don't enforce the law from what I have seen but I wouldn't want to get caught. I have a decent n umber of customers in IL.
