    Fraser Firs yellowing

I have been trying to nurse a line of Fraser Firs along my driveway. I stared them as seedlings about 10 years ago. I have had to replace several, it may be too hot and dry here for them. They are now 5-6 feet high. I water them the best I can in dry weather and give them plenty of dog...

    Coniferous Firewood

I have done some camping in northern Minnesota and Michigan. I have found cedar burns quite cleanly, almost as good as a hardwood.

    whadja do today?

Well it was yesterday. Not planning to nib, I took the dog for a walk. Down the block a couple of my neighbors had some tree work done. I had really noticed it a few days before because of all the debris on the street. Looking around, it didn't look likd a big job. One moderate sized tree...

    Always wear your head protection

My son made fun of his sister when she was on TV at the job site explaining the highway project was delayed another 7 months. I suggested she needed protection from rock throwing irate motorists.

out w/ the veggie, back to petro base

Canola oil is refined from plant seeds. IE a vegetable oil. In fact one of the most highly unsaturated ones, much more so than olive oil. Therefore more inclined to gum up. If I was going to use vegetable oil, I would be very careful that the last tank of theday was dino. A nightmare...

good glue needed for plastic handle

I left my old green Poulan on the ground while I went up in a tree with a hand saw..... I forget what I used as glue on the larger pieces, likely Super Glue. For the rest, I used fiberglass. Ugly, but it worked.

    Preventing Raccoons from Climbing

Wrap the aluminum flashing around the tree trunk. Secure it by wrapping a screen door spring around it. That will allow the trun to expand.

Update on the mystery orange wood thread

I had suggested hedge even though the bark wasn't right. It doesn't fade like that. I am unfamiliar with the Hophornbeam so it could be.

    cutting roots?

Yeah, the recip saw. I came across some prunning saw blades at Big Lots cheap. I also use a drain spade to clear the dirt around the roots. It is enough narrower to get between them. I sharpen mine to slice the smaller roots with it.

Killing fescue in and around sumac

Yeah, that is what Monsanto told me when I was wanting to wipe out some ground ivy and nimblewill under my hedge tree. Round Up kills what you spray it on.

    Big Orange and wood

Sorry if this has been beaten to death. What does Big Orange do with rounds they haul away? I may have mentioned a severe orange truck infestation here last summer. Well there were a number of piles of rounds about the neighborhood. OK, I am a slacker, only having a recreational fire in the...

    Thermostat?

Do you have a 2 stage thermostat, and it is where the wood stove doesn't heat it directly? If so, you could connect the wire from W1 to the G terminal at the furnace. When the thermostat called for heat, it would activate the blower. Otherwise, you could install a simple thermostat in the...
