Cool vintage find.

Are you speaking of the US version of the 026 ? The pro saws for the Canadian market were built in West Germany and now just Germany. They are a different version from the US saws. My 1989 026 does not have a decomp valve but has the adjustable oiler and hi/lo carb adj. The US did not see this...

The only spare parts that I keep at the shop are bars and chains, rim sprockets / spurs, air filters, spark plugs. All other parts are available for name brand saws 30+ years.

I started out with the original 026 back in 1989 and loved it, but when the MS 260 came out in 2001 it was my new favorite saw. Now having both a 2012 MS 260 and a 2013 MS 261, my new favorite is the 261. Can't wait to get my new MS 261 cm broke in and find another to mod out.

What did finally go for ? I dropped out at $300.

In Canada a MS 271 goes for $449.95, the 291 $529.99. These saws are built in the US. The Pro saws are built in Germany. The top ends are different thus more power and no EPA regs. The MS 261 is $549.99, the MS 261 CM is $649.99. Money well worth spent.

The MS 261 is lighter and has a higher power output than 271 and 291. Sell the 271, 029, 290, 390. Keep the 360 and buy a 261. These two saws will outperform all the rest.

That's what I thought. I'm always leery about eBay or CL saws. You take the chance of buying a project gone wrong.

The Canadian version of Pro saws were/are built in Europe. My original 1989 026 was built in West Germany. In 2001 and 2012 I bought the MS260 Pro which are made in Germany. Then in 2013 the MS261 even my new 2014 MS261-CM is German. The only saws that we get that are built in the USA are...

Most Canadian Pro model saws are built in Germany. Both my MS 260's are German saws, the 2001 has plain floppy caps while the 2012 has the ones with a line.

The 2012 MS260 had those floppy caps with the line on them in Canada. Where do you see the I/O graphic on the rear handle ?

Very nice work. If you can specialize in aluminum, stainless, cast, and magnesium ( which is interesting to tig weld ) go for it.
