    Bought a Huskee 22 ton.

Harford County-Jarrettsville Nice that you still have all the wood access. I have so much, there is hardly any room on my property. Need to cut trees to make more room. More and more is offered every day. It is hard to say no.

How neccessary is sun to dry firewood?

I think it is a combination of sun and wind that works the best. If you can clear a spot, it would help a lot. We are having a lot of rain in Maryland. Most of my seasoned wood has been covered. The seasoning uncovered wood is wet in spots. Today was a nice cool, breezy day for drying. I...

    Bought a Huskee 22 ton.

Hi Joe, I have the same splitter. Bought it a year ago for 949.00 and 12 months no interest. It has worked out well with no problems. It is a little slower than I would like. Also recently bought the log rack, helps, but the way it is curved causes the part of log previously split to get...

    I need your help

it is just like wood. Not all stoves are created equal. Start looking at stoves online as well as their specifications. Then create a list of your favorite ones. It would be helpful then to go onto woodheat.org or another similiar website to see the ratings of stoves that you are interested...

Wood ID - some kind of cherry?

The bark does not match cherry and the leaves do not match sycamore. The leaves do look Elmish. It could be Chinese Elm or some type of Elm. Where in Maryland do you live? I am in Jarrettsville.

Conundrum; takin' down a Box Elder today...

Very true on the red colorations. An arborist friend of mine told me that it was a type of disease or fungus of some type that grows in the tree. Wood carvers like to use it. Ive also burnt quite a bit of it. It is good for getting the fire started.

    Ticks, Here They Come Again...

I have never really had Ticks on me that I was aware of. Not used to it. 2 Ticks in one week is 2 too many for me.

What are You'ins burning for the Winter of 2014?

I have never burned hackberry, as for the Mulberry, it is one of my favorite. I have read where people claim that it smells like Cotton Candy whem burned...not too sure about that but still pleasant. The wood turns a rich brown color when seasoned.

Thanks for the responses. It is good to hear people are happy with them. I have a newer steel stove but I think a larger one is needed to heat my house, especially since it is in the basement. I need to sell this one and an old Fender Strat Guitar. The stove I am interested in is on...

    Chestnut Oak

Chestnut Oak is very hard and heavy like White Oak. I was told one of the local sawmills pays for white oak but not Chestnut Oak. Is this due to color and grain or some other characteristic?
